I am researching Elizabeth C. Langdale, daughter of John C. Langdale & Jane Guthrie...I suspect that Elizabeth married William H. Harris...they are family 861 on the 1860 census for Colleton County...family 859 is Jane Langdale & family 860 is J. W. M. Langdale...I suspect that the son of William H. Harris & Elizabeth C. Harris - William, age 6 - is my great grandfather...his death certificate gives maiden name of Langdale for his mother, but no given name is listed... Do you have any info that you could share with me that might give me some clues/leads on Elizabeth C. Langdale? Thank you!!

I sure do appreciate your info and you are correct. jeff's first name was richard . I am sorry I didnt mention that in the first query, but you have given me a link to go on, Its not hard to beleive that they married their spouses. but lots of childen are born in diff marriges too. thats the dificult part not knowing who married who. whats interesting is I grew up knowing my grandmother Mary E Roberston Johnson, I had met her twin George ( Bully), when I was a child. I never knew any of her other brothers or my great grandfather, richard jeff, but here is the interesting part. I grew up listening to storys that my great grandmother minnie died when mary was a small girl. and the story goes that she was givin a way as a child. well it turns out that she was raised by the johnson family because she was turned over to a family (?) that almost beat her to death, the johnsons took her in and finished raising her and thats where she met my grandfather hershel, they married when she was 23 yrs old and she had my father at age25, i know sometimes the diff stuff you get in conflicting to others but I will check out the site you recommended. thanks again for your reply, would very much like to stay in touch. I'm looking for info on WB King, who served as a Sergeant in the 2nd State Troops, Co. H, Aug 1863 - Feb 1864. I believe he was from Colleton Co., SC. I further believe he is listed in the 1870 census in Colleton Co as Wiatt King. I can find no trace of him before 1860, and he's not listed in the 1860 SC Census. I'm also looking for a woman I believe to be his sister, Annie King Lott. They are living next door to each other in the 1870 census. Annie was once married to a PW Lott, according to the death certificate of her son, Wyatt, in the 1930s. I can find no trace whatever of any PW Lott, Pinkney Wyatt Lott or any variation. On her son's death certificate, Annie was said to be from Bamberg. Marjorie

I found most of what you refered to in your memo. I do not have anymore data than what is in my data base at http://www.cwoodcock.com in the second data base listed with the name of William Woodcock, Sr by Edward Breland. One the researchers that has donated her material to the Rootsweb.com site is Carolyn Rhodes Ramsey. She has done lots of hard work in this family (others as well) and has the background of the earlier settlers of Colleton County and other LowCounty Counties as well. I did find that what she and I have found is slightly different from what you stated in your memo. Jeff Robertson born 1881 and George Hampton Robertson born 1876 were brothers and sons of William "Box" Robertson and Mary J Wilson. George was married to Minnie Lee Cook & Mary Wilson. The daughter of Mary and Box were the parents of Mary Lee who married a first cousin of mine. Jeff mar! ried Mary E "Minnie" Wilson and they did have a son named Jeff who married Thelma "Mollie" Morris. What makes this interesting is that Carolyn has listed Jeff twice. Once as Jeff and then as Richard Jefferson "Jeff" Robertson but with the same wife Mary E Wilson. Good luck, Edward

I am a little confused as to whether L. B., Stephen and Richmond are brothers and what is their connection to Alonzo and E. M. Ackerman, who are in same area. Also, I assume Richmond b. abt. 1853 is s/o Richmond b. 1811? I am connected through many area families; Clayton, Johnston, Muckenfuss, Tucker and Way.

Excuse the duplication for those of you who may have gotten this on other lists. The South Carolina Department of History and Archives now has the index for its holdings online here: http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/search/default.asp I haven't had a chance to look around much, but there are lots and lots of plats indexed, some wills and other public documents. Each document indexed includes the names mentioned in the document! Good luck! Seeking information regarding the following families who were in SC prior to the Rev War and were residing the St. Bartholomew's area of Colleton District by 1790: ROBERTSON, STANLEY, JOHNSTON, LEMACKS, BLOCKER, PRINE, CROSBY and CLIFTS. Any assistance would be appreciated. Jim Langford
If anyone has access to the 1860 Colleton County census and is willing to do a lookup, I am searching for the family of Caroline Benton, aged about 34, with children Julia, Virginia, Augusta, Anna and maybe others. I do not know her husband's name, so I know it will take a little longer to look. Listed in Bowen Twp. at the 1870 census and in Heyward Twp. at the 1880 census. Your help GREATLY appreciated!
