    1. [SCCHESTERFIELD] Roscoe Families
    2. It look like this site is not to busy so I will post my request once again hoping that there is a connection out there somewhere. I am interestered in the Roscoe families of Chesterfield, Marlboro, Darlington counties South Carolina and Richmond, Anson, Charlotte, Cabarrus, Cumberland, and other North Carolina Counties. In particular I am interested in Oliver Roscoe who was born in Chesterfield County South Carolina about March of 1824 and died about 1900-1901. He apprently married Caroline "Linnie" Steen about 1844. Oliver served in Compamy "C", 1st Regiment, South Carolina Infantry during the War Between the States. Oliver Roscoe appears first in the 1850 census of Chesterfield County and in each census thereafter through the 1900 census. In the 1850 census it appears that Oliver and Caroline had not had any children. His first child, Annie was not born untill about 1852. The other persons enumerated in Oliver Roscoe household in 1850, other then himself and Caroline, were Mindu or Minda Roscoe a white female age 60 and Rachel Roscoe a white female age 17. The children of Oliver and Caroline appears to have been: 1. Annie Roscoe, born about 1852. Married her cousin Thomas Roscoe. 2. Catherine Roscoe 3. James "Jim" Roscoe born 27 Feb. 1856, died 30 August 1923, married Annazilla Gulledge about 1884. 4. Alexander Jackson Roscoe. 5. William "Dock" Roscoe born 8 August 1864 or 8 July 1865, died 1 Dec. 1928, married Rachel Bowen or Boan about 1892. 6. Nancy Roscoe 7. Beedie Roscoe, believe her 2nd husband was John W. Crowley. 8. Mack or Mark C. Roscoe born 14 August 1874, died 23 March 1943, married Nancy Brown. It is believed that Oliver had at least one brother (possibly others) named Riley or William Riley Roscoe. William Riley Roscoe sr. was born about 1830 in Chesterfield County. It is believe that he served Company "K", 4th S.C. State Troops during the War between the States. His first wife was Julia (1850 census) sur-name Cross or Cook. His second wife was Isabella (1870 & later censuses). William Riley Roscoe family appears in all the censuses beginning in 1850 through 1900 in Chesterfield County. William Riley and Julia Roscoe appears to have had six known children: 1. Sarah Roscoe 2. Isabella Roscoe 3. William R. Roscoe 4. Thomas Roscoe b. 13 April 1852, d. 28 July 1919, married Annie Roscoe. 5. Ann E. Roscoe b. abt. 1853. married James Council Cassidy. 6. Harrett Roscoe William Riley Roscoe and his second wife, Isabella had six children but only four are known: 1. Emoline Roscoe 2. Laura Roscoe 3. Manda Roscoe 4. John Roscoe I would like to correspond and exchange information with anyone who is descended from or has knowledge of these Roscoe and their Ancestors and descendants. Would like proof of who the parents, especially the father, of Oliver and Riley Roscoe was. Need exact dates of births, deaths, and marriages of Oliver and Caroline, William Riley and Julia and Isabella. Need the names of the parents of Caroline (Steen) Roscoe, Julia (Cross/Cook) Roscoe, and Isabella (?) Roscoe. Last of all I would like to know from where this line of the Roscoe family came from prior to their arrival in Chesterfield County or South Carolina. Any help would be greatly appreciated. James R. Rasco

    3. Hi, my name is Trisher Smith. My mother's family comes from Chesterfield area, but we have none of your relatives in our line. Have you tried the Irish records ? I will look up my listings of our church cemetary where many early settlers in Society Hill are buried. The Crowley family are buried there and a cemetary near there. That is the only connection I have for now with you.We all belong to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the cemetary I refer to did belong to the church, but since the church is gone they gave it to our family organization.Go to the www.LDS.org and get into the genealogy section and check things out. Also, our churches have genealogy libraries in each area open to the public. Hope I can help you.
