I had some ancestors who were from Chesterfield, Marlboro and the surrrounding area. I thought they had dropped off the face of the earth until someone sent me info on their whereabouts, which turned out to be Gibson Co., TN. Everytime I turn around , I have found another family that migrated to that area. The migration was around 1830. I have just found a Sheriff's Tax list for that year, and some of the people I was looking for are on the list. Thought I would share it with all of you. Hope it helps you as much as it has me. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngibson/sheriffList/sheriff-end.txt And while I am on the subject of Chesterfield Co., I just found out that back in 1782, a group of Baptist from the old Welsh Neck Church broke away and formed the Cheraw Hill Baptist church that worshiped at St. David's for nearly thirty years. Even though St. David's was originally built as an Anglican church, it rarely ever had a minister. One of those early Baptist members , Phillip Pledger is buried in the churchyard, now under the extension at the back of the church. Just before he died, he had given two acres of land for a new Baptist church back in Marlboro near his Sawmill. Joanne H. NC harleyclan@coastalnet.com
