Try contacting John Teel at jrteel@dellepro.com --he was very helpful to me in trying to find out about the Teel/Teals. She does show up, along with her husband, in a deed in Anson County (http://www.ghg.net/sellers/sellers/html/page2.html) in January of 1818, showing her as the daughter of William, when she and her husband, her sister Nancy Buchanan and her husband and their brother, Joshua Teel, sold Benjamin Teel their shares in their father's land on Jones Creek in Anson County NC. The 1820 Census index for Anson County NC shows a Swaner on p. 52, the 1830 has a Swanner on p. 53, 1840 has Swanner on p. 93, and 1850 shows a Swaner on p. 190 A and 222B. There is no variant of the name in the census index for Anson in 1810. I am afraid I don't have access to the census records themselves for these years, so I can't help with whether these are indeed James and Lydia. Maybe this will help a little--good luck, Karen
