    2. William Thomas 'Bill' Brown William Thomas "Bill" Brown, 83, of Ruby, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home. Interment followed in Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery. Born in Chesterfield County, Mr. Brown was a son of the late Belton and Janie Britt Brown. He was a retired brick mason, carpenter and farmer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, a member of the American Legion and member of Zoar United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Chesterfield County, P.O. Box 293, Chesterfield, S.C. 29709; or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, S.C. 29260. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth J. Brown of the home; three sisters, Eva Habenicht of Wilmington, N.C., Doris Crawford of Raleigh, N.C., and Lila Murray of Toledo, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Ruth Brown of Albemarle, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Brown; and two sisters, Ruth Miller and Mamie Brown. Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mary Ellen Gardner Trotman Mary Ellen Gardner Trotman, 59, of Cheraw, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001. A funeral service was held at Har Sinai Church in Baltimore, Md. Burial followed in Woodlong Cemetery in Maryland. Born in Cheraw, Mrs. Trotman was a daughter of the late Elmore and Eva Gardner. She attended Long Junior High School and after moving to Baltimore, Md., was employed with Saint Agnes Hospital for 32 years. She was one of the founding members of Har Sinai, served as President of the Pastor's Aide, was a soloist, Church Anniversary Captain for 31 years, was Minister of Music, Praise and Worship soloist, and a teacher. She was married to Jesse Trotman Jr. II. Surviving are three children, Jesse Trotman Jr. III and his fiancee, Roberta of Frederick, Md., Cynthia (Michael) Brown of Cheraw, and Kenneth (Kim) Trotman of Owings Mills, Md.; eight grandchildren, Shanda, Chianti, Latavia, Nikia, Justin, Donta, Jessica and Kiana; a niece adopted as a grandchild, Dorterra Leggett; two brothers, Elmore (Joyce) Gardner and Jaycee (Gladys) Gardner of Baltimore, Md.; four sisters, Vinnie Myrie of the home, Naomi Ashe and Dora (Officer Terry) Leggett of Cheraw, and Jacqueline Stewart of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a special son, James (Isimadore) Ashe Sr. of Cheraw; a godchild, James Ashe Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; and a host of other relatives and friends. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ James L. 'Jake' Williams James L. "Jake" Williams, 66, of Pageland, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002. A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30 from Cross Roads Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church, 4963 Cross Roads Church Road, Ruby, S.C. 29741; or Hospice of Chesterfield County, P.O. Box 293, Chesterfield, S.C. 29709. Born in Pageland, Mr. Williams was a son of the late J. D. and Thelma Carnes Williams. He was a retired employee with the South Carolina Department of Transportation and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #58 and Cross Roads Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Margie Wilson Williams of the home; a son, Steven L. (Malea) of Matthews, N.C.; two daughters, Tonya W. (Leonard) Gardner of Pageland, and Pamela T. (Jason) Pickett of Norfolk, Va; three brothers, Loyd (Sybil) Williams and Norvard Williams of Pageland, and Mitchel (Mary) Williams of Lexington; three sisters, Gladys (Bill) Broome, Carol (Fred) Broome and Rachel (Harold) Outlaw, all of Pageland; a sister-in-law, Catherine Williams of Pageland; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Williams. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 from Mt. Level Baptist Ambassador Outreach Ministries with Bishop Livingston Cannon officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Born in Chesterfield, Miss Rush was a daughter of Yolanda Rush and James Madison Jr. She attended Wallace Elementary School where she was an outstanding student. In the second grade, she was an honor roll student and teacher's pet. Surviving are her parents; a brother, Antonio Rush; maternal grandparents, Jamesena Cannon and Sammie Rush; paternal grandparents, James Madison Sr. and Juanita O'Neil; a great-grandfather, Otto Cannon Jr.; two aunts, Yvonee Rush and Veronica Madison; three cousins, Khadijah and Zakyia Davis, and Cherlle Campbell; her godmother, Cheryl Rogers; a god-sister, Debran Ashe; a god-brother, Tyriq Ellerbee; a special friend, Akira Siler; four great-aunts; two great-uncles; and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 from Lower Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial followed in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery. Born in Chesterfield County, Mr. Grooms was a son of the late Doc and Anna Johnson Grooms. He was a retired farmer and member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church. He was married to the late Mary Tarlton Grooms. Surviving are a son, David Rudolph (Sydney) Grooms of Seaside, Ca.; a stepson, Jake Tarlton of Chesterfield; three stepdaughters, Volise Grooms of Chesterfield, Viola Dunn of Jefferson and Gracie McIntyre of Kannapolis, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 45 great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 from Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with the Rev. Polly officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Born in Darlington County, Mrs. Dixon was a daughter of the late James Clarence and Elma Edwards Wallace. She was the widow of Coyt J. Dixon. Surviving are two sons, Danny R. Dixon and James A. Dixon both of Cheraw; two daughters, Teresa G. (Bobby) Winburn of Hartsville, Vivian Elaine (Jerry) Lewis of Patrick; two brothers, C. W. Wallace and Jimmy Wallace both of Kannapolis, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Aycoth.
