Hey Jane and Listers, I was a little concerned about the advice for the anti-worm procedure, so I asked my "resident computer geek" (my husband). This is his reply. Also, I agree with Joanne Harley. The best thing to do is get Norton or it's equivalent and keep it updated. Good luck. Bobbi If the first attempt fails (which it will because of the phony address), the worm goes no further and your friends will not be infected. I don't think so. Most programming languages allow an error exception procedure that will fix/ignore or just skip the problem. In Visual Basic the statement On Error Resume Next would just skip the bad address and go on. Or if the worm writer has any degree of knowledge he/she will check each address the see if at least it is in the proper form. Besides, what if the worm picks random addresses from your book or starts at the back? If everybody you know does this then you needn't ever worry about opening mail from friends. Bad advice. Gives you a false and possibly fatal sense of security.
