W. BROADUS BOATWRIGHT JEFFERSON - Services for W. Broadus Boatwright, 78, were held last Wednesday at Fork Creek United Methodist Church with burial in the Jefferson Cemetery. Sutton Funeral Home was in charge. Mr. Boatwright died December 10, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Born in Jefferson, he was a son of the late William G. and Daisy Sullivan Boatwright. He was a retired contractor and farmer. He was a WWII veteran, member of the American Legion Post #80 and Fork Creek United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Betty R. Boatwright of the home; sons, Rev. Bud Boatwright of Hartsville and Robin Boatwright of Jefferson; daughters, Betty Jo Price and Brenda Oliver, both of Jefferson, Phyliss B. STEELE CHESTERFIELD - Services for Ney Baxter Steele, 85, were held Sunday at Chesterfield Baptist Church with interment in the Chesterfield Cemetery. Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Steele died December 13, 2001. Born in Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Baxter Alexander and Eunice Jennings Steele. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina Law School and was a retired attorney. He served as former Town Judge, County Attorney, and Public Defender, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was a member of Chesterfield Baptist Church, where he served as former Chairman of Deacons, Trustee, Sunday School teacher and member of the building committee. Surviving are his wife, Mary Smith Steele of the home; sons, Steven Steele of Richmond, VA and Russell Steele of Florence; daughter, Cynthia S. King's Funeral Home was in charge. Mrs. Baker, died December 7, 2001 after a long illness. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Katie Robinson Wadsworth. She was the widow of Curtis Lee Baker. Surviving are her devoted companion, Jay Price; sons, Curtis L. Baker, Jr. and Jay E. Baker; daughters, Phyllis Miller, Patricia Baker, Jo Nell Threatt, all of Pageland; brothers Harry Wadsworth, Jr. of Bronx, NY, Eustus Wadsworth, Cecil Wadsworth, and David Wadsworth, all of Pageland; sisters, Flora Arkorful, Martha Hamilton, and Evelyn Diggs; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Davis Funeral Home of Monroe was in charge. Mr. Chisholm died December 11, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born in Moore County, he was a son of the late Jesse Walton Chisholm and Callie Mae Thomas Chisholm. He was retired from Clark Equipment Company as a re-builder of transmissions. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Myers Chisholm; sons, Thomas Reece Chisholm, Jr. of Essex, MD, Gregory Scott Chisholm of Wadesboro; daughters, Linda Myers of Maryland, Melissa Chisholm Graham of Rockingham; brother, Moody Chisholm of Lakeland, FL; sister, Alice Griffith of Kannapolis; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
