James, thank you for your response. I descend from John M. Wilks and Mary Gulledge who left Chesterfield County just before 1850. They dwelled a short time in Georgia where their first child was born, then moved to Pike County, AL, where they died in the 1890's. It is believed John M. was the son of John T. Wilks who wrote his will in Chesterfield in 1881. Circumstantial evidence reveals John T. may have been the son of Francis Wilks who appeared on Chesterfield census as early as 1810 and as late as 1850. It is thought that Mary Gulledge was daughter of William Gulledge, Sr. and Mary who relocated to Barbour County, AL, where Mary appeared on 1860 census living with a female Wilks. Any assistance would be appreciated. I am a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and am seeking direct Wilks and Gulledge ancestors who served in that war.
