    2. Minnie Margaret Quick Rainwater Minnie Margaret Quick Rainwater, 72, of Cheraw, died Monday, Dec. 10 at the Chesterfield Convalescent Center of Cheraw. A funeral service was held a 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 from White's Creek Free Will Baptist Church, Wallace, with the Revs. Jerry Hatcher and Richard Rainwater, nephew of Mrs. Rainwater, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Born in Marlboro County, Mrs. Rainwater was a daughter of the late Roland Vance Quick and Katie Cox Quick. She was a member of White's Creek Free Will Baptist Church and was retired from J. P. Stevens. Surviving are a son, Larry Gene Rainwater, of Rockingham, N.C.; three grandchildren, David Gene Rainwater of Cheraw, Shannon Marie Rainwater Murray and Gabrielle Rainwater, both of Hamlet, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Meighan Brooke Goins, of Clio, and John Chazz Evard Murray of Hamlet, N.C.; a brother, Luther Quick of Wallace; and sisters, Thelma Rainwater of Wallace, and Mildred Cox of Charlotte, N.C. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ John D. Griggs John D. Griggs, 73, of Timmonsville, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001 in Florence hospital after an extended illness. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17 from Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington. Burial followed in Florence Memorial Gardens. Born in Darlington County, Mr. Griggs was a son of the late Dorcus and Annie Gainey Griggs. He was a member of Fellowship Assembly Church in Timmonsville and worked for East Coast Leasing Company in Florence for many years. Surviving are his wife, Betty Jean Griggs of the home; five sons, David Griggs and Chris Griggs, both of Timmonsville, and Ronnie Griggs, Jimmy Yarborough and Richard Yarborough, all of Darlington; three daughters, Barbara Sweeney of Lansdale, Pa., and Connie Taylor and Sherry Poston, both of Darlington; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Inez Loflin Roscoe Inez Loflin Roscoe, 76, of Cheraw, died Dec. 12, 2001 at her home. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Born in Chesterfield County, Mrs. Roscoe was a daughter of the late J. T. and Ida King Loflin. She was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was married to the late Woodrow Roscoe. Surviving are five sons, Maxcey Roscoe of Patrick, Vern Roscoe of South Port, N.C., Bobby Roscoe, Nick Roscoe and Tony Roscoe, all of Cheraw; two brothers, William Loflin, and Gary Loflin of Cheraw; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Elaine Roscoe; a sister, Edith Baum; and five brothers, Woodrow, Raymond, Howard, John and Jack Loflin. A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 from Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert A. Long. Interment followed in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends and family were invited to visit and add to the online tribute which was established to celebrate the life of Mrs. Raines at www.AmericanMemorials.com. Born in Chesterfield, Mrs. Raines was a daughter of the late Baxter Franklin and Alma Isgett Rivers. She was a member of Pinebelt Baptist Church, was retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield and was the owner of The Flower Pot Company. She was the widow of Richard Talmage Raines. Surviving are a daughter, Phoebe (Boyd) Steele of West Columbia; a son, Joseph T. Raines of Columbia; three sisters, Jackie Isgett, Clara Oliver and Millie Hancock, all of Chesterfield; a brother, C. B. Rivers of Chesterfield; seven grandchildren, Kenny, Kristie, Tabitha, Cheyenne, Dakota, Katlynn, and Justin; and three great-grandchildren, Sierra, Michael and Jacob. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 from Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Wallace with the Rev. Jerry Hatcher and the Rev. Glenn Privete officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Hills Memorial Gardens, Cheraw. Born in Marlboro County, Mr. Walters was a son of the late Nathen Walters and Bessie Lee Hendrix Walters. He served in the U.S. military during World War II. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, and was retired from Powell Manufacturing. Mr. Walters and his wife were foster parents for over 26 years. Surviving are his wife, Ethel Bridges Walters; two daughters, Mary L. Garris of Cheraw and Jerrie Jordan of Pageland; two sisters, Mamie Lee McQuage and Marjorie Brigman both of Bennettsville; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Norton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
