I need proof of who the parents of OLIVER ROSCOE were and the exact dates of his birth and death. Oliver first appears in the Chesterfield censuses in 1850, page 122, dwelling # 368, family # 368 as follows: Oliver Roscow 26 M W Laborer S.C. Caroline Roscow 18 F W S.C. Mindu Roscow 60 F W S.C. Rachel Roscow 17 F W S.C. It is believed that Caroline was his wife and her maiden sur-name was Steen or Stean. From info in the 1900 census, they were married about 1844. It is believed that Mindu or Minda is the mother of Oliver but have not found proof of this. If She is his mother, Rachel is assumed to be a sister. The 1860 census of Chesterfield County list the household of Oliver as follows: Cheraw P.O., page 99, dwelling # 70, family # 70 Oliver Rasco 31 M W Cooper S.C. Caroline Rasco 25 F W S.C. Annie Rasco 08 F W S.C. Catherine Rasco 04 F W S.C. James Rasco 03 M W S.C. Alex Rasco 01 M W. S.C. The 1870 census of Chesterfiel County list Oliver's household as follows: Cole Hill, written page 8, stamped page 282, dwelling # 92, family # 92 Oliver Rasco 35 M W Cooper S.C. Caroline Rasco 30 F W KH S.C. J. R. Rasco 19 M W S.C. J. E. Rasco 17 M W S.C. M. E. Rasco 15 F W S.C. M. A. Rasco 13 F W S.C. The 1880 Census of Chesterfield County list the household of Oliver as follows: Cole Hill, written page # 18, Dwelling #188, family # 188 Oliver Ruscoe W M 53 Head S.C. S.C. S.C. Caroline Ruscoe W F 46 Wife S.C. S.C. S.C. James Ruscoe W M 21 Son S.C. S.C. S.C. Doctor Ruscoe W M 16 Son S.C. S.C. S.C. Jackson Ruscoe W M 18 Son S.C. S.C. S.C. Nannie Ruscoe W M 13 Dau S.C. S.C. S.C. Bidely Ruscoe W F 11 Dau S.C. S.C. S.C. Mack Ruscoe W M 06 Son S. C. S.C. S.C. Katie Ruscoe W F 23 Dau S.C. S.C. S.C. Dink Ruscoe W F 01 Dau S.C. S.C. S.C. It is believed that Doctor's full name was William Doctor Roscoe a/k/a "Dock" Jackson's full name was Alexander Jackson Roscoe. Nannie is probably Nancy although the daughter Annie is sometimes listed as Nannie. Bidely ( spelling not clear on census) may be a short form of Obediance. Katie is no doubt Catherine or Katherine. Dink is Katie's daughter not Oliver's. The 1900 census of Chesterfield County has Oliver's household listed as follows: Cole Hill, sheet # 11, dwelling # 215, family # 216 Oliver Roscoe H W M 3 24 76 m 56 SC SC SC Cooper Caroline Roscoe W W F 10 28 72 m 56 4 4 SC SC SC Keeping house Mack Roscoe S W M 8 73 26 s SC SC SC RR Laborer Catherine Roscoe D W F 6 96 3 s SC SC SC Although the 1900 census indicates that Caroline has had only four children and all four were still living, the records shows that Oliver had the following children: 1. Annie Roscoe a/k/a "nannie" born 26 Aug. 1854, died July 31, 1921 buried at Bethesda Methodist Church Cemetery. Married her cousin, Thomas H. Roscoe about 1880. 2. Catherine Roscoe born about 1857. May have married a Bryant. NFI 3. James "Jim" Roscoe born 27 Feb. 1856, died 30 August 1923. Married Annazilla Gulledge about 1884. 4. Alexander Jackson Roscoe born about 1859 NFI 5. William Doctor Roscoe born 8 August 1864, died 1 Dec. 1928. Married Rachel Bowen (Boan or Bone) about 1890-92. Both are buried at Bethesda Cemetery. 6. Nancy Roscoe born about 1867 NFI 7. Beedie (sp) Roscoe born about 1869. 2nd marriage to John W. Crowley. NFI 8. Mack or Mark C. Roscoe born August 14, 1874, died March 23, 1943. Married about 1904 to Nancy Brown. Any help in identifying Oliver Roscoe's parents and other siblings and his exact dates of birth and death would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. James R. Rasco
