Part 2 A. J. Calder A. J. Calder, 74, of McBee, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29 from McBee United Methodist Church. Born in Marion County, Mr. Calder was a son of the late Matthew H. and W. H. Calder. He moved to McBee in 1955 and was a former principal, girl's basketball coach, football coach and baseball coach at McBee High School. He won his first state championship in 1965 as a coach for girl's basketball. He was a former member of the S.C. State Board of Education and the Chesterfield County Board of Education. He served for 29 years as a Chesterfield County Council Representative, and was manager and owner of Ridgeview Farms. Surviving are his wife, Gloria Ingram Calder of McBee; a son, Andrew G. (Butch) Calder of Chapel Hill, N.C.; three daughters, Vicki C. Dorn of Hartsville, Laurie Calder Roberts of Hillsborough, N.C., and Tamara Calder Jacobus of Rock Hill; a brother, Pete Calder of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Virginia Calder of Florence, Doris C. Cribb of Georgetown, Jackie C. Stewart of Atlanta, Ga.; and eight grandchildren, Drayton and Kerry Dorn of Hartsville, Paul, Emily and Hannah Roberts of Hillsborough, N.C., John David Jacobus of Rock Hill, and Jennifer and Josh Smith of McBee. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Roy Garris, J. P. Garris, Carl Garris, Raymond Garris, Lester Garris and Manford Garris; and a sister, Lottie Page.
