My great-great grandmother Sarah Jane GRAVES PURVIS was married to William A. Purvis of Anson County. William & Sarah are listed in Anson Co. (1860-1870-1880). Living with William & Sarah in 1880 is Betsey Purvis with a daughter Mary J. Purvis. Sarah died in 30 Dec. 1893 and it looks as if William then married Betsey. Betsey is listed in 1900 census with daughter Ella, William is not listed. Betsey sells land in 1900 that William and Sarah purchased. William died after Sept 1899 in Anson Co., date unknown but not listed in 1900 census. Signed a land deed in Sept 1899. William & Sarah had one child a son named William James Purvis born 25 Sept 1863. After 28 years still haven't positively determined who Sarah Jane GRAVES PARENT'S are?. Sarah Jane, age 16 was living with her mother or grandmother MARY, age 55, in 1850 Chesterfield Co. census. Also in household are David, age 32 & Thomas GRAVES, age 14. I now believe that David W. GRAVES and an unknown wife were the parents of Sarah Jane GRAVES. William Thomas GRAVES , age 14 in 1850, born about May 1838 married Mary Gilly Lassiter on 26 July 1857. Something happen and by 1859 William Thomas had married Mary F. Gainey. They had two children, Clarinda and Nancy Jane. Clarinda married Christopher Wesley Teal. I have no information on Nancy Jane David W. Graves married Mary Anne Gulledge (believed to be 2nd wife). They had 4 children - Annie Jane, Margaret H.; Daniel G.; Archibald James Graves. Annie Jane living with Brother Archibald James through 1920 - Never Married Margaret H. living with Brother Archibald James through 1920 - Never Married Daniel G. married Ula HOLLEY Archibald James in census with sister through 1920, Never married Mary Gainey GRAVES is also living with Archibald James and she dies 25 April 1921. Her husband David W. Graves died 21 Nov. 1898. David's brother Thomas(1820) married Eliza "Mollie" Rivers. They had 4 children - Mary Ann, Eliza and Martha Jane. Thomas died in the civil war on 19 Oct 1862 at Winchester, VA. Mary Ann married William F. Rivers (died in Civil War) then Ferguson Hale SMITH. Eliza , Listed 1850 census, no other info. Martha Jane married Elisha B. SMITH and had a large family. Then we have Mary Ann GRAVES, born abt 1825 married to Andrew Jackson Wallace. Also, Sarah Rebecca GRAVES, born about 1819, married Jefferson Belk. Who was Mary Graves Husband? Who was David W. Graves's first wife? Are Sarah Jane, age 16 in 1850 and Thomas age 14, in fact David's children as I have them presented? Who were the parents of Eliza Mollie RIVERS? Were David W. (22 Jan 1812); Sarah Rebecca (1819); Thomas (1820) and Mary Ann (1825) all siblings and sons and daughters of Mary Graves, age 55 of the 1850 Census. If you can help with any of the family names mentioned in this lengthy posting please contact me personally. I may have made some mistakes but I have sources to back up most of the data posted and collaboration from family members on some of the data. Charlie
