This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MASSEY,HILTON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mcB.2ACE/4.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi, I did not know that Pageland did not exist in 1865, so it was Blakeney's Crossing. No I never did find out anymore. I checked with local newspapers for that time period and was told, that mostlikely there wasn't enough ink or paper to print up a local shooting, since it was right after the war. I have been able to narrow it down to have been between Sept. and Nov.1865. The source for the 'story' was family story handed down by generations. It seems my gr.gr.Grandfather JAMES MASSEY,born 1826, had a mistress and two children by her; he supposedly made it to her house and died several days after his son, my gr.Grandfather John William Massey, born 1849 shot him, defending his mother Martha C.Hilton-Massey,born 1829. Now family story goes that John and brother George and their mother fled the same night for Alabama, but documents show that Martha did not leave until around 1868-69; so not sure if any of it is true or not, but sure would like to know, since no grave has ever been found for James Massey. Are you a Massey desendant?Take care,Eleonore http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mandaley
Elenore, I was just looking at your surnames and you have a lot of MY Blackwell's and perhaps a Brunson. My line starts with George and goes through Carl Furman Blackwell. Perhaps we could help each fill in some gaps.
