    1. [SCCHESTERFIELD] Edith Norris - 1790 Chesterfield Co, SC census
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Norris, James, King, Willet Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mcB.2ACE/193 Message Board Post: In the 1790 Chesterfield Co, SC census, Edith Norris is head of household for 2 males older than 16, 2 males under 16 and 2 females. In 1791, William Norris leaves a will in Kershaw District listing a wife Martha, 3 sons William, John and Joel (the youngest) and 2 daughters who are already married. William Norris doesn't appear in the 1790 census as head of household. My new theory is that William and Martha Norris were living with his mother, who according to researchers on Rootsweb was Edith James (widow of Robert Norris). Therefore the two females are Edith and daughter-in-law Martha, the 2 males over 16 are Edith's son William (b about 1745 SC d. about 1791 SC) and William (b about 1765 SC d 1846 AL) and the other two sons are the younger males. The dates are estimates from sources found on the web. Many folks seem to have combined the lives of these two Williams and some people have the older William dying in GA about 1820. William and Joel appear in the 1800 Chesterfield census and John is in Darlington. One daughter married George King and the other married Benjamin Willet (husbands mentioned in will.) Anyone care to share their opinion? This is a new line for me so I'm just trying to figure it out. I don't mind someone showing me where I am wrong.
