    1. [SCCHESTERFIELD] Surname migration patterns website???
    2. Brian Gallagher
    3. About a year ago I came across a web site in which you could enter the surname you are researching and the census year you are looking at, and a map would be displayed showing the frequency of distribution of that surname in the US at that time. Of course, I've cleaned out my favorites folder and no longer have the information! I've hunted for it, but get hits for either census records or general location maps. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Cindy Gallagher Winter Park, FL

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/mcB.2ACE/122.1 Message Board Post: Hi Harriet, in "St. David's Parish, SC Minutes of Vestry 1768-1832, Parish Register 1819-1924", you may find some of your clues. Under "Baptisms" for June 7, 1881 there are entries for Louis Alexander, 9 yo b. abt 1872, son of Louis and Henrietta Gainey, sponsor grandmother, Harriet Gainey and James Thomas 8 yo b. abt 1871, son of Louis and Henrietta Gainey, sponsor grandmother, Harriet Gainey. It is interesting that the name of Louis is also spelled Lewis, and Ganey is changed to Gainey. The only mention of an Isaac is at a meeting Aug 3, 1782: "Order'd that Isaac Ganey a poor boy be bound to Thomas Lankford till he is 21 years old at which age he is to receive a good Horsebridle and Saddle and a good Sufficient Suit of Clothes home spun NB the Said Ganey is 15 Years Old." Hope this helps. donna donalitt@cst.net

    1. [SCCHESTERFIELD] James Thomas Gainey, Marjorie Gainey Blackmon, Eleanor G.Burch
    2. I am trying to find a link between my grandfather...JAMES THOMAS GAINEY (b.1873,d.1932)...his father and mother, LEWIS GAINEY and Henrietta Wallace...and Lewis's father and mother ...ISAAC GAINEY and Harriet Barker. This information was kept by my aunt, Eleanor Gainey Burch (Mrs. Clancy Burch). After searching the internet sites for almost a year, I can go no farther back. My mother's sisters, Eleanor Burch and Marjorie Gainey Blackmon, were lifelong residents of Chesterfield County. I am hoping that someone following this board can give me a link to my family beyond my gggrandfather, Isaac. Any clues will be helpful. I hope to make a trip to Chesterfield County before too long to look through county and library records. I do know this...James "Jim" Thomas Gainey was a member of St. David's Parish Church and is buried, along with his wife, Rosa Ardilla Braswell Gainey [and, I believe, their infant daughter, Rosa Ardilla Gainey], in St. David's churchyard. Actually the infant may be buried with the Braswell family in Anson Co., NC. Jim Gainey and his family lived in Cheraw at 906 Market Street. He owned a store located in his backyard and he was also the Western Union operator for Cheraw for many years. Thank you very much for any help that anyone may be able to provide.

    3. In the 1850 Chesterfield Census, Clement Griggs HH 1225 had Frances Meadows, age 80 living with him. Clement was the son of John Griggs and Fanny Rushing. John Wesley Griggs also a son of John Griggs and Fanny Rushing married 1st a Susan Meadows. In the 1840 census there is a Frances Meadows living in Anson County, alone. Is this the same person? William Meadows of Chesterfield born about 1773 is said to have married a Griggs but given name unknown. Family tradition says there were other intermarriages with the Meadows(or). Can anyone enlighten me on any of this, please??

    1. [SCCHESTERFIELD] Alexander and Hay Families
    2. Jim
    3. I'm looking for any information Hay and Alexander families in Chesterfield County. The information that I have is very shallow and un documented, so anything will help. Haswell Hay of NC moved to Chesterfield after marrying Margaret Barrow of NC but before having his first child Howell Hay in 1804. Both Haswell and Margaret died in Chesterfield. Besides Howell they had Gideon Hay, Catherine Hay, Jeptha Hay, Penelope Hay, Rebecca Hay, Reuben Hay, and Hulda Hay. Catherine Hay married Dowill Alexander, possibly the son of Benjamin Alexander and most likely from Darlington County. Dowill b. abt 1818, died young , d. 1848, leaving Catherine with 4 young children, Benjamin Franklin Alexander, Hanna Alexander, Hulda Rebecca Alexander, and Wesley Pagee Alexander. Any information on anyone in this family would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
