    1. [SCCHESTERFIELD] Michael Miller Family of Chesterfield
    2. Sue Brooks
    3. I have a genealogy book that includes the descendants of Michael Miller 1784-1874 of Chesterfield Co., SC. The sources cited listing includes: Miller-Lowry Family Bible, owned by Laura Lowry Trifiletti, Florence, SC Yandell, Mildred Miller, "George Miller Genealogy", privately printed. Does anyone on the list have access to these, or good copies? I have contacted Sharon Corey at the Chesterfield District Chapter, SCGS and they do not have copies at the CDC library. If anyone does have copies and could make them for me, I will, of course, reimburse for time and cost, AND would also like to purchae an additional copy made to send to Ms. Corey for the CDC library. I am a descendant of Michael Miller's brother George Miller. Thank you Sue Brooks guiness_1393@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2. Thanks Sharon for clearing this up. I did not think you were implying anything about Glenn or his book. Messages are not always as clear as we might like them to be and sometime get the wrong interpetation. Some of my messages during the past year has also been misinterpeted and has caused me great distress. You have been of great assistance to me in the past and through the misinterpetations of others to my postings, you have been upset with me also. I am sorry for that. Your are a very fine hardworking lady and I truly do appreciate all that you have done for me and all the others on this list. Glenn Perdue is also a very nice, hardworking, gentleman who has put in a lot of time researching his family lines and shareing the results of his labor with others. He has been a lot of help to me over the past several years. Between you and Glenn and perhaps one or two other who I will not name, I have received quite a bit of data on the families that I am interested in in Chesterfield County. Thank you so very much for your Christian kindness and all your help in the past. James R. Rasco

    1. Re: [SCCHESTERFIELD] Cassidy Family
    2. James- Didn't mean to imply anything about Glenn's Cassidy Family book or website only that he probably couldn't be of any help on the Cassidy line because Jane told me this past summer at the SCGS Workshop in Columbia that she had shared her Cassidy research material with him. Jane- You are absolutely right..... Glenn does deserve tons credit for his personal interviews and many hours spent at the archives. The copy of Cassidy Family book that Glenn donated to the Chesterfield Research Library is well used and I just hope to one day have one similar to it on the Thrashley White Family. We are slowly thawing out here and even though I haven't been out in the snow much, my guess is that we ended up with about eight or nine inches. Yesterday, "Believe It or Not" we even "Had Mail" and yes it was "snail mail!" I may even trust my husband's expert Yankee snow driving skills enough to let him take me out for dinner tonight. I practically tremble in my bedroom slippers though when I think about that dreaded "Black Ice." One person that I am not sure that you have consulted with on your Cassidy-Brown lines is a lady that has been in numerous times doing research at our research library. Her name is Winnie Black and she is from Florence, SC. She is working on a Cassidy/Brown/Smith book. Glenn- If you are on this list, I have been meaning to contact you to tell you that Doris Bateman, President of the Old Darlington District Chapter, SCGS, mentioned to me at their Workshop in November that they did not have a copy of the Cassidy Family Book and they would love to have one. Can I purchase one from you and donate it to them? Sharon

    1. [SCCHESTERFIELD] Alexander Jordan
    2. Terry Clark
    3. Hi folks, I'm new to the list and I hope I'm not breaking any rules here but I'm looking for info on William Alexander Jordan, born abt 1824 in SC. We believe him and his family moved from Chesterfield County to Illinois after 1860. His wife was Sarah A. (Craley or Crawley) born abt. 1828, children listed on the 1860 census in Chesterfield County were Mary Jane 18; Allen 14; Eliza 12; Charles 9; James 8; G.I. 5; Sarah 3. I was hoping to find a descendant of one of these people, I think some of the children were married and stayed in Chesterfield Co. The Jordans moved to Illinois and had more children there including my ggrandfather.

    2. Thanks Sharon, I did not know this only knew that Glenn had lots of Cassidy data on his familytreemaker site and was trying to help with her query as best I could. Hope no offence was taken by anyone. Just trying to help. James

    1. Re: [SCCHESTERFIELD] Cassidy Family
    2. James- Unfortunately, I don't think Glenn will be of much help to Jane. You see, she sent most of her Cassidy research material to him which he then used in his book on the Cassidy families and on his FamilyTreeMaker webpage (I guess). Sharon

    1. Re: [SCCHESTERFIELD] News paper (1920's)
    2. Hi Michael- The South Caroliniana Library is the best repository for South Carolina Newspapers. The following URL is for their website: http://www.sc.edu/library/socar/ Go to Books Division then Newspapers. Click on USCAN (in red) then on USC Libraries (all Campuses). Now click on All Columbia Campus Libraries and Collections. For Keywords click on Subject then Enter: Chesterfield County Newspapers then Submit Search. There are three pages of lists and you will have to click on Long View for the exact dates. I am not sure if they will answer Email Research Requests, but you can try. Wish I could be of more help, but I do know that the Chesterfield County Library System "weeded" all the "old" Chesterfield Advertiser Newspapers that were donated to them. Go figure! They just do not have the space to store them all, but they should have asked if anyone else did first. (In my opinion!) Sharon

    2. This message is intended to the non-member of this list, Jane Hurd, whose recent query was submitted by Angie Rayfield. It is also intended for any list member who may be seeking genealogical information on the Cassidy, Clanton, or Roscoe family. You should get in touch with Glenn Perdue at his e-mail address of < czarent@earthlink.net > or his snail address of 4510 Sylvan Drive, Columbia, S.C. 29206-1533 or you can find his web page on the Familytreemaker site. He has written a book on the Cassidy families and connecting families in and from Chesterfield County South Carolina. Much of his data is included on his familytreemaker users web page. Mr. Perdue is very knowledgeable of the Cassidy and related families in Chesterfield County. He is always a very friendly and helpful person. James R. Rasco

    1. [SCCHESTERFIELD] Update on Chesterfield County Weather - January 3, 2002
    2. Hi Angie and All- The snow stopped last night around 10:00 and returned this morning around 10:00 with a vengeance. It has not stopped or even slowed down since. We must have seven or eight inches at least by now, but I still have power (knock on wood - my head)! It is showing absolutely NO signs of letting up and I wish I did have time to spend on my own family research, but alas, I am steadily working on the Chesterfield District Chronicle. It should be out in the mail within the week if the power holds. I am desperately in need color printer ink, but don't know when I will be able to get back to Wal Mart. We simply do not know how to drive in this stuff! My husband's business partners from Michigan, Maryland, and Pennsylvania (otherwise known as Yankee country) all thought that they could drive in this stuff. What they did not realize was, that we all here in the South do not know how and we tend to get in the way of those that do. My dogs do not even know how to walk in this stuff! They run out of their dog houses and just stand there like they are saying "HELP!" Angie, loved the The Ballad of John Griggs--a long one! Send more of these please! Still looking for your Chesterfield County Marriage Books. Maybe they got lost traveling in and amongst all those Christmas cards and letters to Santa. To All wishing THEY had some of this SNOW! I will do MY very best to blow some your way! Sharon in Chesterfield County, SC

    2. Hello and Happy New Year to All- Hope that you have been able to use some of the information provided through the recent obituaries I have posted. Unfortunately, I will probably not be able to list any for this week until sometime next week. It started snowing here in Chesterfield County today sometime between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. We probably have anywhere from two to three inches now and from the looks of the forecast I seriously doubt that we will receive our "snail mail" tomorrow. When we got close to a foot of snow in February of 2000 we didn't receive our mail for over a week and then we had to go and pick it up from the post office. I just hope that we don't loose our power like we did then. Anyway, just to let you all know that things will be slowing down here in "good ole" Chesterfield County whether we need them to get any slower or not! Sharon
