"Carolina Spartan" Spartanburg, SC Issue of January 18, 1893 Chester, January 21,--Ex-Sheriff J.W. WALKER, an aged and respected citizen, died at his home in this town last night. For twelve or fourteen years he was sheriff of Chester County, his official career ending in 1884, when he was succeeded by the incumbent. Sheriff WALKER was a highly esteemed citizen, and lived to be about four score years old. He had been ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church here for many years.
