A Washington Times news article stated that cash strapped U.S. Park Service, a division of the Dept. of the Interior has been seeking corporate sponsors for several National Parks and Monuments that are suffering from maintenance short falls. Of particular interest is Liberty Park in Philadelphia, PA. This park is made up of a number of colonial era buildings that are in dire need of repair. An example of these buildings is Independence Hall which has a serious need for major roof repairs and window glazing. The condition of the roof has been allowed to deteriorate to the point that whereas a few years ago it needed new shingles, today the sub-roofing and many of the roof joists will need to be replace. Taco Bell has volunteered over $140m to finance the project with the stipulation that the building that houses the Liberty Bell and the Liberty Bell itself be renamed similarly to the way professional sports venues are named for their corporate sponsors. Starting in 2006 the area around the bell will be called, Liberty Taco Bell Park and the bell itself will be renamed the Liberty Taco Bell.
