Hello Mike, This book would be a nice addition to family genealogy researchers providing family names are included. As a for instance, my Chester Co Ross's. Is there an index of names that you might share with the rest of us? Thank you, Franki Cramer
Unfortunately, the author did not include an index, and the references to specific families and persons occur throughout the narrative from William Coleman's journals. I would say, if you know your ancestor served in the 6th SC Volunteers Infantry during the war, then it's highly possible they may be mentioned. As a for instance, my ancestor Frank Knox was mentioned once, at the Battle of Shiloh. The Chester County Company was stationed in a field, near a church and cemetery. Frank Knox was quoted as saying "Well, at least they won't have far to carry us [after we're killed]." Others have similar references, and some are written about quite a bit. It's still a great little novel about Chester and the men and women who sacrificed so much during the war. Perhaps if I have some free time this weekend, I can skim it and make a listing. Looks like rain again for us in the Upstate of SC, so I'll be stuck indoors anyway.. I'll give it a shot.
