Oh, thanks so much Peggy....this is why the Coats have to go to the original records so much...we're just not in anything....:) While I'm at it...there is another group of Courts in MD, that name is Courts in the original records but it has been transcribed as Coats...another reason for using original records....:) The Coats name btw, is spelled Coats, Coates, Coate and Cotes and sometimes all three versions in the same record.... In Robertson County TN, there is a William Couts who has a deed transaction with a John Baker...now, that same William Couts in the original records has been transcribed in the court minutes as Coats...but this William Couts dies in Robertson County TN about 1850 or so, and his wife's name is Nancy!! Now my Rev William Coats m Nancy Baker...for years this has been thought to be the connection for them...then in other D.A.R. research and an old family genealogy has Nancy Baker's father as Sylvester Baker out of NC...well, I could never put my Coats family anywhere near NC during the time period Rev William and Nancy were married....but guess what, there is a John Baker in Wilson County TN who dies in 1844, he was a minuteman in the Revolution, in Nancy's estate papers in Callaway County MO, she is left the estate of a John Baker of TN...in John's Revolutionary pension file he says he was born in VA, where he was in the Revolution, he moves shortly thereafter to SC, then KY then TN...so that puts him in SC at the time Rev Will and Nancy were married....bottom line, I believe Nancy Baker's father was John Baker of Wilson County TN, who died there in 1844 and left his estate to her...the John Baker in Robert County TN is a different John Baker, he never leaves Robertson County TN but does have a son I believe and some land transactions in Wilson County TN....see how this all gets confused!! Nancy's oldest son in the 1880 census also states she was born in VA! So no wonder we can't find any of them....:) Char ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Peggy Carey" <[email protected]> To: "Charlotte Coats" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [SCCHEST2] Re: SCCHEST2-D Digest V05 #45 Date: Mon, 10 Oct 2005 11:26:32 -0500 I have both volumes of "Chester County, S.C.
