I am looking for information on Crayton/Creighton WILLIAMS 1/1/1796 - 7/11/1789 and his family. According to info I recently received, he enlisted for the War of 1812 in Warren Co NC in 10/1814 and served until 12/1815 when discharged in SC. He settled in Kershaw Co and married twice. First wife was Sarah GARDNER, who he married sometime before 1820. She was born in mid to late 1790s and died 10/12/1843 near Liberty Hill area. A son, William Sims WILLIAMS, is my gr3grandfather and was born 1/20/1820. Creighton filed for a pension for his service in the War in 1812. His second wife also filed for a widow's pension after he died in 1879. Here is 1820 Census for them: Kershaw Co SC Locale: NO TWP LISTED Series: M33 Roll: 119 Part: 1 Page: 308 Creighton Williams: 1 male under 10, 1 male 26-45; 1 female under 10, 2 females bet 16-26; 1 engaged in agriculture In 1830 Census I found them in Fairfield Co SC. 1830 Census, Fairfield Co SC, Roll 169, Book 1, p 309a Genealogy.com Creighton Williams: 1 male age 5-10, 1 male 30-40, 2 females age 5-10, 1 female 10-15; 1 fem 30-40. In 1840 also in Fairfield Co. 1840 Census, Fairfield Co SC, p 172 Craton Williams, 1 male under 5, 1 male 40-50; 1 female 10-15, 1 fem 15-20; 1 fem 20-30, 1 fem 40-50. Wife Sarah (GARDNER) WILLIAMS died 10/12/1843 near Liberty Hill, per his pension application for War of 1812. He also had bounty land for his service, which may have been in Kershaw Co where he lived from c1860 till he died in 1879. In the 1860 CR he was in the Liberty Hill area and in 1870 in Wateree Twp. He remarried Sarah PRICE GRIGSBY, a widow, on 1/3/1844 at the home of Abner PRICE, Fairfield Co. She had a son, John Abney Grigsby, born 1/21/1841, with her first husband, John GRIGSBY who died abt 1841. She and Craton had 3 of their own children by the 1850 Census, and more by 1860. In 1850 Census he was in Lancaster District., an overseer: Crayton Williams age 55, overseer, SC (should be NC) Sarah Williams, age 30, SC James Williams age 12, SC, in school - probably James Abney Grigsby - stepson born 1/21/1841 John Williams age 9 SC, in school Amanda Williams age 7, SC E Williams age 1 (female) SC I am interested in finding the GARDNER family who would have had a daughter Sarah born bet 1796-1800. A check of the Census in Kershaw Co for 1800 shows 3 GARDNERs with females under age 10 which would fit for daughter Sarah GARDNER: Susan GARDNER (a widow? - had 2 females under age 10); Daniel GARDNER had 1 fem. under 10; and a William GARDNER had 1 fem. under age 10. In 1810 Census, William and Daniel GARDNER were still in the county and each had a female age 10-15. Also there was a George GARDNER who had 2 females 10-15. Does anyone have information on any of these GARDNER households and whether a daughter named Sarah? Any will/estate information for them that would show the names of children, and hopefully a daughter Sarah?? Also, Sarah Gardner WILLIAMS died in 10/1843 near Liberty Hill area, so is there a cemetery in that area where she might be buried? Are there any readings from any cemeteries near Liberty Hill for burials in 1840s? Creighton and his second wife are buried in Zion ME Cemetery near the Richland Co line. Creighton died 7/11/1879 and Sarah (PRICE) GRISGBY WILLIAMS died 1/8/1900. Thanks anyone who can help.
