He had been a farmer in the Johnsville community since he went there at the age of 21 years from his native Chester County in South Carolina, where he was born December 11, 1849, a son of Thomas L. and Nancy Jane Thomas Ferrell. Mr. Ferrell was married to Miss Elizabeth Rowell of Monticello and of that union there were born two sons. His second marriage was to Miss Sarah Emiline Rainey of Johnsville and of that marriage there were four daughters. Through more than 77 years Mr. Ferrell saw Bradley County grow from a wooded area with only scattered clearings to a busy agricultural and timber products section. Keen of sight and hearing, he continued to work in his garden, take an interest in community and church activities, and read his Bible, newspapers, and magazines. Until five years ago Mr. Ferrell was active in farming and up to 20 years ago, when his gin burned, he had added its operation to his busy life on the farm. On his 97th birthday he attributed his long life and good health to the hearty breakfast he always enjoyed, saying it started the day right and kept him going. Surviving are his two sons, L. P. Ferrell and H. H. Ferrell; the four daughters, Mrs. Grover Herring, Mrs. Vertie Temple, Mrs. Owen Lowery, and Mrs. Edd Lowery; 40 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren. All live in the Johnsville community. Services for the aged man were held Tuesday morning at 11 from the Johnsville Presbyterian church, of which he was a member. Rev. Pat N. Easterling, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Warren, officiated. Interment was made in Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers were Wilson Huitt, Ferrell Temple, Mason Lowery, Ted Herring, Howard Ferrell, and Owen Ferrell. _Return to Message_ (http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.bradley&m=1275) Ash / Ashe / Kirkpatrick / Rainey / Tipping / Torrence / Inman /
