In the mid 1700s a group migrated from Pennsylvania and settled in what is now Cabarrus and Stanly Counties. These were German Lutherans. Among them were a family whose name had been Americanized to Moose. The name is actually Mussegenung. David Mussengenung and wife Elizabeth arrived from Germany in Philadelphia on Sept 16, 1751 with infant son, George. Sons Anthony, Henry and Jacob Moose were born later in Pennsylvania. Jacob moved to North Carolina and settled in the area of present day Cabarrus or Stanly County. His daughter, Barbara Moose, is my great great great great grandmother. If you have ancestors with the surname Moose, look for a German (aka "Dutch") immigrant rather than a Native American ancestor in the Southeastern U.S. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
