Author: ub4meib4u Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.southcarolina.counties.chester/4089.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I've looked at lots of Chester records on microfilm and I've had the best luck finding spouses with [in this order] 1) Wills and Inventories [both items are often in the same record book], 2) Deed Records, and 3) Court of Common Pleas records, but only pre-1800. After 1800, those records are mainly arrests, etc. and rarely state who a spouse was. I have had instances where they state 'John..., son of William' or 'John... of Rocky Creek' ["R.C." mostly]. SC Archives has posted typed transcripts of Wills online and this is a good start. I have found errors in the typed transcriptions, though.
