I had never heard of MESDA, and am glad to know of it's existence. Several others have responded with information on Thomas Bennett and his family. I have learned that he had a William Kirkpatrick (age 21) living in his household in 1850 and was also listed on the 1850 Census as a gunsmith. My assumption is that Wm. was an apprentice to Thomas Bennett. As I look over on my workbench at this old rifle, I realize now that it is not just a conservation effort, but will turn into a labor of love for our Chester County Roots.
