Since there are no exact names in 1840 census, I checked 1850 census. I can find one Elizabeth Cowan , age 39. She is married to Shepard E. Cowan. There are two children listed with the last name of Cowan along with a lot of others. Children are: Susan C, age 7 and Martha G, age 4. They are in Abbeville, South Carolina. I am not sure if this is the correct person that you are looking for. The other Elizabeth Cowan was 50 years old and had no children listed. Hope this helps.
