You said that her line goes:father William Hamilton b.1726 m Elizabeth McCullough; father Alexander Hamilton b. 1690 at Grange. In Paterson's "History of the county of Ayr"(1882) page 203, he shows that Alexander 1690 had a son William, yes, but there is a note beside it saying: "William married Jean, daughter of Robert Donald Esq. and had issue" Perhaps he married twice? Can you please show me the connection you have found between Jane Hamilton, wife of Capt.Robert Cooper, and the William Hamilton who was son of Alexander 1690?I would be very greatful for this information.Paterson's book can be found on Google Books, and once you have the book, try search for "Hamiltons of Cambuskeith" or page203.
