Have you found anything so far? There is a John Watson living next door to the Grant's in the 1830 Census who appears to be 30 - 40 years old. Jonathan was born in 1828 so he would be 2 years old at the time. The record shows 2 males under 5 years old, can we assume this is Jonathan? I would like to be sure. Also, the P Grant in the same census is "Pois", Jonathan's son was named Lorenza Pois and subsequently my uncle was named Pal Pois Watson.
