Her father, Robert Wham (1795-1832), had come to Chester with his parents and siblings in May 1807. According to a poem kept in the family bible, they had left Ireland in Nov. 1806. The family story has been handed down that a storm had caused the ship to change course and land in Cuba where they were delayed. I don't know if it really was Cuba or some other island. At any rate, Robert died prematurely in 1832 in Chester County. His grave still stands there, protected by the current property owner who is not a relative but very kindly looks over it. His wife, Hannah Hamilton Wham, sister of John Hamilton, also from County Antrim, Ireland, later emigrated to Marissa, Illinois.
