I am interested in your Ann Robinson. I wonder if she could have been related to Sarah G. Robinson who married Joseph L.W. Johnson, the son of Benjamin Brown Johnson and Jane Milling Young Johnson. Sarah was born July 2, 1818; died Feb 12, 1888. She had a son, Robert Benjamin Johnson and a daughter Mary Jane Johnson who married a Wyth. Mary Jane's daughter married Robert Hayes. Robert B. Johnson is buried in the Harmony Cemetery, Harmony Baptist Church, Edgemore, S.C. (Chester Co) If you have any information on Sarah Robinson (parents, etc), I will appreciate hearing from you. In attempting to establish the definite tracks of the Colonial roads around the time of the American Revolution, researcher Ken Shelton is trying to tie down the actual site of Lee's Mill which traditionally is located just below the Chester County line in Fairfield on Two Creek Rd. The deeds he is interested in, taken from the online SCDAH site are below, along with some pertinent questions for anyone in the know: Grant of 400 acres to Jacob Bowers, surveyed 5 Sept 1758, on Bowers Mill Creek, sold to John Lee in 1767 Grant of 250 acres to Jacob Cassell, surveyed 6 Feb 1759, on Little River, sold to John Lee in 1762 Grant of 150 acres to John Lee, surveyed 4 Feb 1767, on Little River, bound by Jacob Bowers and Jacob Cassell John Lee's will, which is digital imaged online, contains a somewhat rambling and confusing inventory of these three tracts, and he gives some to his widow as a life interest, and then subdivides them out to sons. He explicitely states, though, that the part to the widow has his mill on it. Which brings up another question I have -- is Bowers Mill Creek the same as what is later called Lee's Creek, and is Lee's Mill actually the 2nd iteration of what was Jacob Bowers' Mill and John Lee bought out the interest when he bought Jacob Bowers' original 1758 grant entry per a memorial in 1767? Any help with these questions would be very much appreciated. -Pelham Lyles, Fairfield County Museum (803-635-9811) From: scchest2-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:scchest2-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of scchest2-request@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2009 3:02 AM To: scchest2@rootsweb.com Subject: SCCHEST2 Digest, Vol 4, Issue 9

I am thoroughly confused. Levi Jones Newlan of Gridley, Coffey Co., KS, was indeed married to an Alice, and Ray Newlan (Henry Ray Newlan) of Westphalia, KS, was Levi's nephew. However, their marriage record has her name as LUCKEY -- 1878 May 5, Levi J. Newlan md. Alice A. Luckey, Coffey Co., KS, Book B, p.188 Index to Coffey Co., KS, marriage records, http://www.kscourts.org/dstcts/4comrecm.htm And Levi's 1938 obituary has the same name -- Levi J. Newlan was born March 24, 1851 in Decatur, Ill., and departed this life near Gridley, Kansas, February 21, 1838 at the age of 86 years and 11 months. He was married to Alice LUCKEY in Liberty township, Coffey county, May 5, 1878. They had lived on the old farm on Big Creek south of Gridley for 59 years and in May would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. >From a published transcription of Fairhope Cemetery: Levi J. Newlan, 3-24-1851 to 2-21-1938 Alice A. Newlan, 8-19-1861 to no date When I was at the library in Burlington, KS, collecting obituaries, etc., several years ago, I did not find an obituary for Alice in the library's vast collection, and her gravestone does not have her death date as indicated above. Noting that the 1900 census has her dob as Aug. 1861 as does her gravestone, then she was only 17 when she married Levi. Surely she was too young to have been "Mrs." Luckey when she married Levi in 1878? Not unheard of, but not necessarily common. I checked the Coffey Co. marriage records for both the McCartney and Luckey names among the grooms, but found neither. I'm in the process of posting to the Find A Grave website. Levi's page is at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=33033211 and Alice's is at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=33033923 Neither is quite finished as I write this, but will be soon. Hope you can shed light on this mystery. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi List: I am searching for the marriage, and possible baptisms of the children, of Thomas Cobean(Cabeen), and Effy(Effie) Unknown, ca 1772. I believe Thomas (09 Oct 1801) and Effy (08 Jun 1827) are buried in "Old Purity Presbyterian Church". I would appreciate feedback on the following: 1) Does Old Purity still exist ? 2) Are there Registers existing for births, marriages and deaths there ? 3) Is there an on line register of the Head Stones @ Old Purity ? 4) Would it be possible to get a photo of the Head Stone(s) for Thomas and Effy ? 5) Would it be possible to locate the marriage for Thomas and Effy ? 6) I believe their oldest son, Alexander, was born ca 1774, thus I would anticipate their marriage ca 1774. 7) I believe Thomas moved south from Pennsylvania, some time after 1765, but do not have a more accurate date. Is it possible to obtain a more accurate date when Thomas arrived in Chester, and obtained his farm ? Regards Jim White Naples, Florida
