Now I go back to square one. My John Knox was born 16 May 1816 in "South Carolina" then moved to Blount County Tennessee where he married Lucinda Blackburn 21 Jan 1840. Then before 1850 they moved to Franklin County Arkansas. Since so many of the Knox clan moved from South Carolina to Arkansas, and the birth year was the same, I was hoping that the John you mention was actually my John and that the reference of a marriage to Martha Green Johnson was an error. By confirming a child from that marriage you just confirmed that this JOhn is not my gr gr gr grandfather. I am disappointed, but at least you helped me to eliminate an option. After 1800, those records are mainly arrests, etc. and rarely state who a spouse was. I have had instances where they state 'John..., son of William' or 'John... of Rocky Creek' ["R.C." mostly]. SC Archives has posted typed transcripts of Wills online and this is a good start. I have found errors in the typed transcriptions, though. In the end, it's just an investigation process and almost nothing online. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I show that William Yarborough Ferguson and Ann Robinson had a son named Stephen Robinson Ferguson, born 26 Nov 1815. He married 2 times, 1st marriage was to Sarah White, daughter of Robert White and Mary/Molly Culp. Sarah was born in 1807 & died 11 Feb 1853. >From page 92 of Captain Bill Vol 3 by Robert Stevens: CB55 Julia Ann Culp, born 12/26/1821 Chester County SC, died 3/12/1903. Married as his second wife, Steven Robinson Ferguson, born 11/26/1815, died 4/29/1907, a son of William Yarbough and Ann (Robinson) Ferguson. Both buried OHBC. They had four children* *Note from pg 198: S.R Ferguson was a grandson of Stephen Adam and Betsy (Finley) Ferguson. He was first married to Sarah White (CA55). When Gen. Sherman occupied Lancaster Co., S.R. Ferguson assembled a group of mounted men and attacked a small party of Federals on Robert Ford's plantation near Rocky Mount and took a few prisoners. Bloated with success, he gathered more men and the next day, attempted a full attack against the main van of Sherman's Army only to find they had crossed the Catawba River. Julia Ann Culp parents were Henry Culp & Ann "Nancy" Jordan. Sarah White and Julia Culp were 2nd cousins. I have more information on both these wives as they descend from Hans Casper Kolb/Kulp/Culp which is my line. 3. I have a John A. Hayes who married Frances Steele. I only show 1 daughter for them, Sarah Elizabeth Hayes born 19 Dec 1881 who married Walter Metts White in 1901. As to the other names I have nothing on them. Unfortunately there is no index in the Captain Bill book. I show no parents of Ann. I did a quick look on Ancestry to see if a tree there might show her parents or siblings but there was none. I will look thru the book tonight to see if I might spot one of those names.
