He was married to Agnes Cockrell. There were several other Liles/Lyles in the Chester/Fairfield Co SC area who arrived there circa 1740, the first Anglo settlers in the up country of SC, and we match them identically with DNA. However, I have not been able to document John's father. We do know though, that this group of Liles came from Brunswick Co. Va and we know the names of a small group of Liles that most likely were his ancestors. The Cockrells also came from VA to Chester Co SC in the mid 1700's and descendents still reside there today as do descendents of the Liles. Darlene, I have responded to your message on Ancestry.com . How are you related to John J. Liles and Sarah Holden? I do not know John Liles (d 1790) Chester Co SC's father although I do know, through DNA testing, that we match the known descendents of Ephraim Liles exactly. But I have never been able to document John's father. Most likely he is the son of one of the Liles of Brunswick Co. Va and he likely was born in the 1750 era as when he died there were several, as I recall, seven, children still in the household. We are again having the Liles reunion this October at the Feaster school house in Fairfield Co. Although at the time I was doing the research, it felt like I became a part of the family! LOL I never determined who Jonathan Watson's father was. His answers in the 1850 census show that he was born in SC about 1828. I never found him in the 1860 census, even after going page by page in the Harris County GA records. Did you find him? My research theory was that he migrated from South Carolina to Harris County GA with the Grant family about 1835-1836. James Grant was the father of Jane Grant, wife of Jonathan Watson. James had a son named Pois Grant. The 1850 Harris Co. GA census record for Pois Grant shows his children were born in SC until about 1835-36, the rest born in GA...this is where I got those dates. This is the general time the Grants showed up in Harris Co. GA. In what 1830 census are you finding John Watson next door to Grants? This lineage research has gotten cold for me, so I need to get out my files and do some reading to refresh my memory. Sue....... Gideon Anderson had sons that married.. and a Murphy was in there somewhere. Anderson was in Wilkes Co GA.. early... I think you can see him in Early Records (GA) a book... it has alot of info on Wilkes. It is also in parts on the web.. "Hidden Ancestors" or two other Wilkes GA Genealogy websites can point you to it. That Murphy was pretty important to his several associate families, and the starting State and county... Have you found anything so far? There is a John Watson living next door to the Grant's in the 1830 Census who appears to be 30 - 40 years old. Jonathan was born in 1828 so he would be 2 years old at the time. The record shows 2 males under 5 years old, can we assume this is Jonathan? I would like to be sure. Also, the P Grant in the same census is "Pois", Jonathan's son was named Lorenza Pois and subsequently my uncle was named Pal Pois Watson. The name of the wife was Elizabeth Miller who married a Johnson about 1805-1820 and they had a daughter named Jane born in TN in 1823. Jane Johnson married Robert W. Miller of Newton Co, GA in 1845. Elizabeth Johnson seems to have been deceased by this time. Robert and Jane Miller had a son named William Bryce Miller b~1860. Does anyone know the first name of the husband/father of Elizabeth/Jane Johnson? Does anyone know more about this family? Does anyone know what county Johnson City, TN was located in 1820?
