John Kidd is also referred to as "Cap. John Kidd", so he's probably an officer from Rev War or War of 1812. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Did people travel a lot between counties? Between SC and the territories (MS,GA,AL)? Or back to VA? Specifically, I'm looking for info on Greenbury Worthy, born ca 1819 in Chester County. I find a Greenbury Worthy in AL a generation before, and would guess he's an uncle, but can't get beyond that speculation. So any clues are welcome. I am assuming her Mother's name was Dowden because of some naming characteristics in this family. Does anyone have any information on this family?

    3. I found help by writing directly to Chester County probate court and asking for a copy of the index of the estate records for the surname that I was researching. That way they would not be overwhelmed by my request. Once I had names and page numbers from the index, I was able to specify which estate record I wanted a copy of. Estate records include any wills if they exist and also the names of people who bought at the estate sale. 2. Since there are no exact names in 1840 census, I checked 1850 census. I can find one Elizabeth Cowan , age 39. She is married to Shepard E. Cowan. There are two children listed with the last name of Cowan along with a lot of others. Children are: Susan C, age 7 and Martha G, age 4. They are in Abbeville, South Carolina. I am not sure if this is the correct person that you are looking for. The other Elizabeth Cowan was 50 years old and had no children listed. Hope this helps. Unfortnuately, he was murdered in about 1933 by a Robert ("Dolly") Wright (it's a long story). In South Carolina during that period, when people were murdered there was usually no death certificate. His brother was Amos Clark, and from the census records it appears that Amos died between 1900 and 1910. Fletcher had several children with his wife Sicily, and by others as well(including a Rev. David Carthel Clark, Sr. by another relative of mine, Lilly Mae Wilks). My great grandfather was William ("Will") Clark. The 1975 North Carolina death certificate of one of his youngest sons, John Amos Clark, lists Fletcher Clark and Sicily Wright Clark as the parents. Also, the 1955 Application for Certificate of Birth by a Fonnie Viola Clark Cohn lists Fletcher and Sicily Clark as parents. Othe! r children include Sam Clark and Esther Clark.
