Our Samuel and Martha Jefferson Bell Walker of Edgefield SC in 1800 research group has just gotten back the results of a DNA test on a male Walker of this line. We have a match! Our Walker line matches that of GROUP 10 at the Walker DNA web page: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fabercove/test_results.htm The Walkers who have already contributed and who are our match in GROUP 10 descend from Richard and Rachel Martin Walker (she was the daughter of Valentine Walker). Richard was thought to have been born about 1790 in SC and died ca 1855 in, possibly MS. A son was William Pinckney Walker who married Hannah Moore. We are now hoping and looking for other descendants of the Richard and Rachel Walker family to continue to investigate their Walker ancestors. Please let us hear from you if you are researching this family. Also please send this info to others who might be interested. Look forward to hearing from descendants of Richard and Rachel Martin Walker. Judy Russell Bogart, GA Our Samuel Walker of Edgefield Web page is at: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/r/u/s/Judith-F-Russell/index.html

Correction I copied this article from the Spartanburg County Rootsweb Site. About the time I hit the send button, I noticed the dates. Probably this article came from the next edition after the 18th since Walker's death occurred on the 20th. Jim Webb
"Carolina Spartan" Spartanburg, SC Issue of January 18, 1893 Chester, January 21,--Ex-Sheriff J.W. WALKER, an aged and respected citizen, died at his home in this town last night. For twelve or fourteen years he was sheriff of Chester County, his official career ending in 1884, when he was succeeded by the incumbent. Sheriff WALKER was a highly esteemed citizen, and lived to be about four score years old. He had been ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church here for many years.
Susan, There is An Alford American Family Association, P. O. Box 1586, Florissant, Missouri, 63031-1586. They also have a web site. They have a wealth of information on the Alford Family on the web site alone. I wish you luck, Valeta

This was an April Fools joke perpetrated by Taco Bell back in 1996.. please see: http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/tacobell.html But the way the world is going, I wouldn't doubt it may happen soon. Seeking information about John Rodman who along with "Blacksmith" Billy Walker was murdered at Rodman's store in the early 1830's in Chester. John Ferguson was hanged for the crime. Would like some leads as to where to search for articles or details about the crime and trial. Thank you. Sandra Rodman
According to Snopes this is an April Fool prank which was first done in 1993 by Taco Bell. For more information the url is: http://www.snopes.com/holidays/april/pranks.asp In a message dated 3/30/2004 4:26:49 PM Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: It is a shame that we cannot use volunteers to help restore these monuments. In the Pacific Northwest they use volunteers to clean the beach, to rebuild trails, to clean up creeks, to plant trees and vegetation and many other things. I am sure if someone would have asked for volunteer roofers to fix the roof when it was an easy fix it would have been fixed. I will send a letter to Gale A. Norton. It is time for all men and women to get our country back! Sincerely, Judy Minihan

Does anyone know if the Archives has microfilm from each of the counties' records for deeds, wills, etc.? I refer specifically to a compilation by a Martha Lou Houston called "Indexes to The County Wills of South Carolina" which indicates the U. Of SC Library has copies of the will books, but does the Archives also have copies? Will be in Columbia soon and trying to do a lot in little time! Thank you, Eleanor McCain
DO NOT click on the link in the message you received below. This is some poor, misguided person's attempt at humor. It is a re-direct to Outwar.com, and will install all types of spyware and possibly even viruses on your machine. Delete the email. If you have already clicked on the link, you should download and run a cleaner program such as Spybot - Search and Destroy (free from http://www.safer-networking.org/) and Ad-Aware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ also free. In addition, run your virus scan software immediately.
