Hi, roll call, my names in Chester county are Rock Tippin Wilson Allen McClellan Martin McDowell McKee Orr and in York county Faris Farie Loudon Glen Stevenson Holmen WI
My MY!! The Chester County List is alive. Some information for you all: I have had to give up the Chester County Website for personal reasons, and our State Coordinator, Victoria Proctor, is actively seeking a new coordinator to take Chester and move forward with it. All the information that exists on the web pages is available for use by the new coordinator, including the space on the Rootsweb server. If anyone on the list is interested, you may contact Victoria at [email protected] At the present time, I am still administering this list, and the Chester County Query board. However, if any of you are interested in becoming the administrator for either of these, you may contact me directly, and/or Victoria as well. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support and kind words of encouragement over the last 3 years. Chester has so much history, and so many fine families have their roots in the red clay of Chester, that this cannot go anywhere but forward. I hope, when a new coordinator is named for Chester, you will give him/her the same support you have given me over the years. I will still be around, 'cause I still have some brick walls with my MAIN families, which are: CURRY KNOX MCGARITY WALLACE Sincerely, Michael J. McGarity

Glen Stevenson Holmen, I'm wondering if my Robert Coulter family was part of the Covenanters who came with Rev. Martin from County Antrim, Ireland in 1772?? Do you happen to know the name of the ship and where I can look at a copy of the passenger list?? One of his daughters, Mary Ann, married John Stevenson, Sr from County Antrim, Ireland between 1773 - 1777. Another daughter, Margaret, married Andrew Graham from County Antrim, Ireland about 1775 in Chester, SC. Robert's son, Robert Stuart Coulter, took part in the Rev War at 16 yrs of age. I have estimated that the family arrived in SC in the early 1770's but don't have an exact date or ship name. Linda Coulter Hirst [email protected]
I only have one name and this family wasn't in Chester Co. very long - from the end of the Rev. war to after 1790 but before 1800. Dodds (or Dodd), John and or James John is the father (Scotch-Irish from PA.) and James the son born in 1782. Kit Dodd Liverpool, NY

Am desc. from Martha Patton and Abraham walker who md. in Davidson co tn. 1797 resided un williamson co Tn a;so but I think went "back" to S.C. as he disappears from the Williamson Co. Tax lists and a Martha and an Abraham Walker appear in Chester Co.Then later they are back in williamson co. tn. and then to Clarke Co. Al. which accounts for some of their ch. being born in tn and some in S. C. Would love to know where thir land was. she appears in the presbyterian church records. I am writing from memory and can`t recall which Church at this time. we think her mother and his may have been Barnetts. and they may even have been 1st or 2nd cousins. Sue in Al.

My lines in Chester/Fairfield area are: Whitted (transcribed as Whitehead, Whithed, Whitten) Gwinn or Gwyn or any variation of that (sometimes transcribed as Givin) I have Gideon Whitted in the 1810 and 1820 census for Chester County, then in the 1830 Butts Co, GA. His will was proved in Campbell Co, GA in 1835, naming children Elizabeth, Mary, William, Nancy, Davis, Margaret, Jemima, and Julia, and wife Mary. Elizabeth, Mary, and Nancy are named with a married name of Gwynn. Margaret is listed with a married name of Neal. They apprear to have married in the Chester/Fairfield area and I believe they moved into the York area. I have not found anything on William. Jemima and Julia married in Butts Co, GA. Davis married Elizabeth Hodges of Greenville Co., SC and they may be in the 1830 Chester Co census as Davis Whitehead. They moved to Lawrence Co, AL, Henderson Co, Tn, then to Independence Co, Ark. I also have information on Hiram Whitted who was the son of William Whitted and Elizabeth Pickett. He moved into the Greenville Co, SC area prior to the 1820 census. I have not tied his father, William, to Gideon as yet but am sure they are related. I am interested in any Whitted you may come across. Thanks, Jane --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
