Is there someone on this list who would be willing to get a copy of a Chester County deed for me. A couple of years ago while doing research at the Family History Library, I copied a bunch of deeds written between 1785 and 1867, by the families I research in Chester County. Last week, while again researching in the FHL, I copied a bunch more deeds from Edgefield County for the period after 1785, and Royal Land Patents and deeds from the period before 1785 for both Chester and Edgefield Counties. I now find that there are two Chester County deeds recorded about 1870 that I require for my research. These deeds are not available on microfilm from the FHL, and the last Deed Book availabe on microfilm is MM, and these deeds are in book OO. If there is someone on the list who lives in Chester County and would be willing to copy the deeds for my, please write to me off list so we can make the arrangements. I would really appreciate the assistance, Marleen Van Horne
Nancy, I have an Elizabeth Coulter (b. 1758) who married an unknown Kell about 1779, probably in Chester, SC. We have absolutely no information about this couple. Do they happen to match any of your Kell families? Velma, My Andrew Graham married Margaret Coulter about 1775 in Chester, SC. He moved his family to KY about 1807 and remained there until his death in Todd, KY in 1821. Linda, the only mention of Robert Coulter in Stephenson's book about this group is as an owner of land bordering that granted to Robert Jamieson. This does not necessarily mean Robert was not part of the group. Some passengers from the "5 ships" were able to buy land rather than getting it free from the Council, and so they are not recorded in the Council Minutes, which was the major source for the book. The Chester County name I'm researching is McClerkin / McClurkin / McLurkin One group arrived with the Rev. Martin in 1772, but there was apparently already one McClurkin in the area prior to that. My Elizabeth McClurkin, b in SC about 1776, may have been a daughter of one of the 1772 group. Elizabeth married Micajah C Lindsey in either SC or NC. Her mother was named Jane. An earlier researcher (Lois Meyer) believed her maiden name to be Dunwoody, and first thought she married a James McClurkin, then decided it was Richard. I want to determine just who Elizabeth's parents were! There were other daughters, too: Nancy, Hester, Vesta and Jane. All moved to Alabama with their mother and with Nancy's and Hester's husbands, Robert and Zachariah Waldrop. Elizabeth and Micajah Lindsey ended up in Mississippi. Margaret Lindsey Smith
Michael, My Rock family intermarried with a McGarrity family back in Ireland prior to the revolution. Here is a partial record of a Greatgrandaughter of John Rock who got this information from her grandmother Sarah Rock Stevenson in the early 1870s.. I also remember from my Grandmother (Sarah Rock) that the Wiers-Littles-McGarries-Donleys and Ewings were all cousins of either John Rock or Catherine McClellan, also Catherine McCleallan was on the same Family Tree as General McClellan of historic note. I looked through my line and I do not see any names that correspond with yours. Unfortunately, the Brown name seems to be common in Chester. My group are descendants of Lt. Colonel Joseph Brown, a judge in Chester County (1735-1822). I appreciate your information. Sincerely, Dorothy in MS
Linda, What can you tell me about your Andrew GRAHAM? I am a GRAHAM, and my 3 Xs great grandfather was James Newton GRAHAM. All that I know about him is that he married a girl who was born in S.C. in about 1804, and then they had 6 children in Ky. before moving to Al. Thanks, Velma Graham Finley
I'm looking for Browns in Chester, too. My ancestor Mary Amanda (or Amander) Brown was born in Chester in 1819. She married John B. Gladden in Chester Co. in 1839, and one of their sons was James Brown Gladden. There are at least 2 James Browns in the Fairfield/Chester area on the 1850 census. I'm guessing that one is her brother, and that James was also their father's name, but I can't seem to put it together. Other Chester names I'm looking for: Gladden, Stinson, Jackson. Thanks! >Do you have a John Brown married to a Jane died 1842. Jane died >before him.
