My WALKER gg grandparents were John Alexander WALKER b. 1823 and Frances Adaline BOYD b. 1825. J.A. was the son of Charles WALKER and Sarah ESTES. Charles is probably (I haven't seen proof) the son of Adam WALKER and Priscilla TERRY. J.A. was first married to Elizabeth HARDEN/IN and they had two sons, both of whom died in the Civil War. Two of his sisters are reported to have married HARDENs but I have nothing on any of these. F.A. is the daughter of John BOYD and Susan LOWREY. About 1848 the J.A. WALKER and John BOYD families (along with at least one of J.A.'s sisters) left SC. The WALKERs were in Monroe Co., AL in May 1849 when my g grandmother, Mary Adaline "Dolly" WALKER was born. They were all in Leake Co., MS by the 1850 census, along with the John Marshall GILL (m. 1st cousin, Margaret Clemenza WALLACE), Peter MARION (m. Margaret GILL, J.M.'s sister), and William Lynn WALLACE (m. Elizabeth LOVE) families. J.M. GILL, M.C. WALLACE and Margaret GILL were all grandchildren of Thomas WALLACE and Margaret LYNN and all were my gg grandparents. W. L. was son of Thomas and Margaret and uncle to the three. All were from Chester Dist. SC - most born there. Many are buried in Leake Co., MS and others moved on to Acadia, Vermilion, and/or Jeff. Davis Parishes in LA around the turn of the century. Wallace, it sounds as though we do connect. The fact that you have the first name of Wallace and are in New Orleans is also interesting since so many of my lines go back to Thomas and Margaret (LYNN) WALLACE of Chester and I still have cousins in the N. O. area. Am also sending this to the list since WALKER and BOYD are the names I have had most responses on. Maybe we will both find other connections - and more information! Linda, Thanks very much for your reply. Appreciate it. Velma
Velma, Sorry to report that I do not have a James Graham in my Graham file. I'm sorry this is late, I was busy watching the Weather Channel last week. I'm looking for any Kingsleys who were in Chester Co. approx. 1770-1850's. I think they were all related, so I'd appreciate any info. Zephaniah Kingsley, a Loyalist, owned property in Chester Co. He later fled to Canada. Zephaniah Kingsley, Sr. had three brothers and one or all three may have moved to SC with their families. Jeremiah Kingsley married Agnes Humphries (dau. of Charles Humphries & Mary Bennett) in 1789 probably in Chester Co. They moved to GA around 1799. Jeremiah may have moved back to Chester Co., but there is no GA census for 1800 and 1810 so it is difficult to prove. There was a Jeremiah Kingsley in Union Co., SC in 1810, but I believe he is a different person (different wife). Jeremiah Kingsley was with Anderson Thomas, Jr. around 1817 as Jeremiah wrote a letter to the Clerk of Court in Chester Co. to be delivered by Anderson, Jr. (it is with the estate papers of Anderson Thomas, Sr.) If anyone knows where Anderson Thomas, Jr. was around 1816 I would appreciate that info also. (I understand Anderson, Jr. later moved to Ala., but I need to know where he was around 1816-1818.) Thanks, Karen
I have to make another revision in Thomas Morton's date of death to 1806.Apparently there is a list of people inturred in Paul's Graveyard near Richburg. Could anyone tell me how to get a copy of this list? Perhaps in the genealogy society. Glen Stevenson Holmen WI
The following Mortons are buried in Chester county off Appalosa Ridge Road . Margaret and Thomas Morton who are brother and sister. Thomas actually died in 1836 not 1886 as supposed. the stone was very worn and it looked like 1886. The pictures are at. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/sc/chester/cemeteries/Pauls_Cemetery.html Glen Stevenson Holmen WI
Monya, I am also researching McDILL and LESLIE as they relate to the Coulters. According to my records, Margaret "Peggy" McDILL had four brothers. Her brother, John McDILL, born in 1727 in Ireland, is my ancestor. Do you have any information about Peggy's parents and siblings? Linda Coulter Hirst
LOOKING FOR MCCLURE GILLESPIE THANKS IRA MCCLURE
Looking for information on McClure's from Chester, CO. Trying to locate Alexander McClure who married Jane Gillespie in 1825. I have been lead to believe Alexander may be the son of John McClure and Mary Porter. I have some information showing Alexander was born between 1800-1810. While living in SC Alexander and Jane had a son James M. McClure born 1827, after which the family moved to Perry, CO. IL. Thank you IRA MCCLURE
Meg, I collect HOOD info just in case anything can help with my HOODs, so I have info on Andrew HOOD and Elizabeth ARCHER if you need blanks filled in. I'm interested in the Joseph White HOOD you list. Who was he? Supposedly, a man by that name married Molly Cobb BOWEN in 1866 in Coweta Co. GA. Was that him or another man? Vickie Elam White
Hello Walker Researchers, Would it be valuable to us to combine information we have on our various Walkers in hopes of piecing together some family units from the early census records that only name the head of household? We could all post names, siblings, children and parents and anything we know about where in Chester they lived. We all seem to be having trouble connecting. Just a thought................... ----- Original Message ----- From: norman b. cox To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, September 03, 2004 8:07 PM Subject: McCulloch I have been looking at the "roll call" listings and want to get my oar in the water. I am descended from Margaret Jane Strong, the daughter of William Strong and Margaret McDill. Margaret's mother died Dec. 28, 1827 shortly after the daughter Margaret Jane was born. She is buried in the Moffet/Strong/McDill Cemetery. William took his daughter and other children to Lincoln Co., TN. He subsequently married Mary B. Harper who was born in SC. (I cannot determine if he and Mary were married in TN or SC.) Their first child, Martha Ann was born in TN 1834. In the Catholic Presbyterian Cemetery there is a Mrs. S. Matilda Strong (May 1800 - Apr. 7, 1887). Adjacent to her grave is the marker inscribed Malinda, dau of Wm. and Matilda Strong: Sept. 19, 1880. These graves are next to S. Matilda parents, Rev. Robert McCullock and his wife, Margaret. The book, STRONG AND ALLIED FAMILIES From the Papers of Miss. Esther Strong of Chester, SC, edited by Theresa M. Hicks, show S. Matila to be the wife of the above William Strong. As William was accepted in the Prosperity ARP Church in Lincoln Co., it does not appear he had married Matilda and divorced. If divorced, I am sure he would not have been accepted into the TN fellowship. Also, divorces were granted by SC legislative action and are in the SC Archives but do show a petition concerning them. Would anyone be able to throw some light on the subject ? Norm
Thanks for your response, Linda. Do you have any James GRAHAMS in your GRAHAM family? I would so love to find out where in Ky. my James and Sarah raised their 6 children before going to northern Al. by about 1840. Thanks again, Velma
