    1. Martins in Late 18th Century Chester County
    2. Bill Derrow
    3. Is anyone researching Martins in the late 1700s in Chester County? I'm looking for the parents of James L. Martin, who was in Jasper County, GA, by 1820 and in Dale and Barbour Counties, AL, in the 1840-50s. One other Martin researcher cites the father's name as J. Mather Martin. Were there Mathers in Chester during that time? I'm think "Mather" is another family name. Bill Derrow Washington, DC

    1. Wm or Jos Hamilton from SC?? to KY early 1800's
    2. SLH
    3. forgive me if this is a double post.. I sent this out early this morning but not sure it went thru. I've recently become interested in a JOSEPH HAMILTON and WILLIAM HAMILTON that I found in the Livingston KY area 1810 census. also listed PATRICK, WOODS M, DAVID L, and my ancestor, ANTHONY L. Hamilton. Joseph and William are in the same age bracket -- 40-50 years of age and have families of younger children while Woods, Anthony L, and David do not. I believe them to be sons of either Joseph or William or at the least first cousins. I am trying to connect these dots and am hoping someone out there has these gentlemen in their files. If any of these names are a possibility please contact me. Info on Anthony L. -- born in SC, Chester area about 1789, parents unknown. He married into the Elizabeth Woodside of the Samuel Cunningham Woodside family. At some point prior to his marriage in Sept. 1810 in Crittenden/Livingston Cty, Ky., he migrated to KY from SC. I am inclined to believe that several families moved together from SC to KY, eventually moving into Illinois from there. There are also several families in the Oconee/Pickens area of the upstate of SC that could be where these families are from, just no info beyond a guess that Anthony L was even born in the Chester area. Thanks in advance for your time, Sandy Hamilton HAMILTON, WOODSIDE, CRAIG, CALDWELL, JONES, MARTIN, NELSON, LEDINSKY, BISHOP

Children were William Ann McDonald John Jenny Stewart Hugh George Molly (Brown or maybe Dunn) Rebecca Morrison Robert James Thomas Elizabeth Nancy Malinda Montgomery I only have one copy and it is quite large. I don't think my copier would reduce it and if it did to the point where you can read it. If someone belongs to this family and would like it, I can send it to you and also tell anyone else where I got it. Janean

    1. Civil War Hospital in Chester
    2. Margaret Treece
    3. Does anyone know where the building mentioned in the following paragraph might have been in Chester? The person who owned the building was a relative in my family, but I don't know who she was. I imagine she was a Walker or McCullough. The "young lady" mentioned was a Walker. "This soldier's company was at Yorkville, SC in the fall of 1865, at which place he was taken sick, and sent to Chester, where the headquarters of the regiment and hospital were located. The hospital being full he was sent to a small building near by, at which place he was taken care of by a comrade and an old lady, who owned the place. A young lady frequently came in who was a relative of the older one, and for three months this soldier was cared for by those people, the young lady being especially kind and no doubt materially aiding in saving his life." Any ideas? Thanks, Margaret
