Wofford, b. 16 (18?) Jun 1871, Cherokee Co., SC, d. 19 Oct 1948. William S. Wofford was a great uncle of my father (who remembers him as "Uncle Will"). According to my grandmother's notes, my g-grandmother Catherine (Katie) Wofford West was twin sister to William S. Wofford. Catherine (Katie) Wofford was b. 18 Jun 1871, Cherokee Co., SC, educated at Sam's Seminary in Gaffney, married Galbraith Reid West and lived the remainder of her life in Spartanburg, dying 5 Mar 1956. His birth record (if any exists) and the census of the time would be in Spartanburg, York, or Union County as Cherokee was not "official" until 1897 - if he is listed in the 1900 Cherokee census then that might give you a clue about which "parent" county he was living in.
