Phillips is claimed by death -- well-known farmer succumbs to sudden attack Sunday afternoon. Stricken shortly after the family had finished eating dinner, Thomas G. Phillips, 66, well-known farmer, died suddenly early Sunday afternoon as he started to seat himself in a chair in the yard of his home near Gaffney on route 3. Mr Phillips health had been impaired for some time, but he had appeared as well as usual recently, and his death came as a distinct shock to his relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Corinth Baptist church. The Rev B. L. Hoke of Blacksburg, and the Rev C. A. Kirby, pastor of Cherokee Avenue Baptist church, officiated. Interment was in the churchyard with Shuford-Hatcher Company, morticians, in charge. Mr Phillips leaves his wife; four sons, M.T., Dewey, Lambert, and Blease Phillips; five daughters Mrs Floyd Allison, Mrs Edward Pettit, Mrs H. L. Gardner of Goldville, and misses Lois and Grace Phillips; a brother W. R. Phillips of Pacolet; and three sisters; Mrs Mamie Hodge of Pacolet, Mrs Nannie Fowler of Spartanburg, and Mrs Carrie Middlebrooks of Gaffney."
