SC Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/SC/Cherokee/10145 Surname: Franklin County ------------------------- Cherokee County SC was not formed at the time you reference but the area around Cowpens was at that time Spartanburg County South Carolina. This area was never part of Georgia but was in early Colonial times part of Virginia (very early) and a combined Carolina. Part of the county was disputed as being Old Tryon North Carolina. Cherokee County SC was formed from parts of York, Spartanburg, and Union Counties in 1897. The old Franklin County of Georgia did extend into present South Carolina but not as far east as present Cherokee County. For the most part, as I understand, Franklin County was drawn from the Cherokee lands much later (1784) than the early Cherokee lived in present Cherokee County SC. Hope this helps a little and maybe someone can help you find that Cowpens area connection. You'll certainly want to explore Spartanburg County as well.
