    3. I know the feeling about being down. Just got my computer going after a month of none. I am headed that way in a couple of weeks and wanted to plan my time in advance. My husbands parents were married in Gaffney in 1939 and I need proof of the marriage for my records. Can you recommend any good places to look for information while I am there? Sally

    3. You definitely want to see the records at the Family History Center at the Mormon Church and also the local history collection of the Public Library. Most South Carolina counties do not have open public records like some states (i.e. NC) where you can visit the Register of Deeds and then browse the files. I would bet that there are some records kept in the county and I think they would be at the Health Department. I've found the government of Cherokee County to be far from cooperative in the past though.... Good luck. -----Original Message----- From: Sally & Carroll [mailto:neenee@alltel.net] Sent: Wednesday, January 03, 2001 5:46 PM To: SCCHEROK-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Patsy Holt is temp. offline - computer failure RE: [SCCherok-L] How would I order marriage certificate? 3. Hello Sally: The information that you will need will be located in the Court Of Probate Records. These records are located in the old hospital building on North Limestone Street Ext. The office of Judge W. R. Douglas is located in the basement. They are very helpful in locating things that you may need to copy. Hope that you have a very successful search here in the fair city of Gaffney. Have a nice day.
