My information is taken from notes that my grandmother kept of family births/marriages/deaths and they document a John "Texas" Smith who was born March 17, 1845 in Cherokee County and died Dec 20, 1928 in Texas with burial in East Hill Cemetary in Palestine, Texas. He was a brother to her father-in-law. That is all that was in her notes. She did not record any marriage(s) or children for John "Texas" Smith. I am just getting started with this documentation of our family though and if I run into anything more about John, I will forward it to you. I would appreciate any information that you might have on John's ancestry.

Did he marry Nancy Mott? There have been stories that this John took a bunch of family members to Texas, where many of them died. I've also heard that he was a good, though hard-headed man. I'm descended from one of his daughters who stayed in South Carolina. I know that Nancy died Feb 3, 1926 in Cherokee, and that he died sometime before this, though where i do not know. If this sounds anything like your John "Texas" Smith, please let me know. thanks

This is slightly erred as there was no Cherokee County in 1882 but it may be a lead for you... * It appears from IGI that this Joe Mc Abee mar. Ida Bishop in 1909 in Gaffney Cherokee County SC. This is probably where the above re: to birth in Cherokee County comes from. Goodmorning list I am searching for information on Charlie Roberts d about 1939 he married Ola T. Brock d about 1929. She had a brother Walter A Brock. After the death of Ola, Charlie married Lonnie Jolley to take care of his 8 children. They are buried in unmarked graves at Piedmont Baptist Church. I believe they lived in or around Gafney for years. Any help would be appreciated. Could someone please tell me what the local historical society has available for sale and how I can reach them. They were married Sept 1857. From my Grandmother's notes I have the following information: John/Jon Smith was born in 1810 in South Carolina and Agnes Cooper was born in 1809 in SC. John/Jon and Agnes were married c:1830 in South Carolina. John/Jon died in Houston County Texas in 1881. "MCP" was born Sept 7, 1837 in South Carolina, Married Susan Smith in Sept 1857 and died in Houston County Texas on May 3 1904. All four are buried in the Old Shady Grove Cemetery in Houston County Texas. I have pretty good records from that generation to the present but can't seem to get past John/Jon and Agnes to their parents.
