I go to Blacksburg often and I know where the cemetery is that you mentioned.
Judy That would be the perfect location. The family lived at Cowpens battleground near New Plesant Church originaly. Sally You should get your invitation to the Roberts reunion soon.
Carson I live in Ga. Right now I am transcribing the 1860 Spartanburg Census to put on the County page. After this I hope to do some of the 1910 and 1920 Cherokee Co. My husbands Roberts and Scruggs line ran back and forth across the county line like it wasn't there. I hope to make a trip to that area in the next few months to try and track down things. While I am looking through these old census are there any important names I should look for, for you? Sally Roberts searching Roberts, Brock, Price, Scruggs, from SC
Judy this is probably the right area. Where would it be in relationship to some today landmark. Sally Roberts >There is an old Metal road in Cherokee County, S. C. I wonder if this could >be the >road that they are talking about. >Judy

He and his brother Elec (or Eric) were in the gold ore business and very well off for those days. Frederick became the director of the local theater and Frederick Street is named after him. But ... he was from Scotland and it is said he returned there under stress. Also he had many families. My grandmother Lillian Grace Destaffino said she knew of 5. The name Moore comes to memory. Wish I had been more interested as a child in her sharing. I'd to know if anyone is related to Frederick Graham Latham. My grandmother said she thought his mother was named MacDuff and that he was born in Edenbourough, Scotland. Frederick had chldren by Rebecca Ramsey and others by the other women. They used to visit each other. Rebecca later married a DeStaffino and the children took that name. I realize this is a very touchy subject for some and I do not approach it without descretion but rather in the common pursuit of correct information. Thank you and look forward to hearing from anyone out there. Priscilla White Perry

Any and all of his descendants might like to know this since his and few other graves are completely obscure from the highway yet they are right "on the road." Just climb up the embankment and trudge through some underbrush and you'll find him there. It seems the highway disrupted many of the existing graves and these are all but forgotten. A nice headstone is erected. Just thought someone might like to know. Priscilla White Perry

Hello On this guardianship of John Roberts Jr. Do you have any other information. This may be the missing link I am searching for. Sally Jaquet Roberts
Hi Patsy and the rest of the list. I have an Edward Rippy who figured into my family legally as well. In my case E. Rippy, Jr. was listed as surity (security?) on the guardian account for rhe orphaned children of John Roberts, Jr. in 1830. It sounds like Mr. Rippy was providing a great service to the family. Clara Woods Rippy Both of them died in 1917. Their children--off the top of my head-- Inez, Mabel, Pearl, Etta or Ada, Zula, Mattie, Amos My problem is that this is an old family. All of the children are deceased. The last one died in 1981. These children had children of their own and they only had one or no children. Ada or Etta(It was Etta on a census for 1900) is my great grandmother. She had two children. Her daughter Clara was my grandmother and she died in 1928 two weeks after giving birth to my mother. What is really annoying is that I was able to find Ellison and Clara Woods Rippy's death certificates in SC archives. There weren't any hints on Ellison's death certificate except that he was from NC. I have since learned that the line between SC and NC moved at some point. Sheila
