    1. Re: [SCCHARLE-L] CITY ARCHIVES

    3. About nine years ago I went to the Charleston City Archives and saw original ledgers for the Charleston Orphan House from 1829-1830. I remember they were in the process of moving to a new location at that time, and I haven't been back to check since. Does the city have a homepage? You might be able to e-mail for directions and/or phone number. It may have merged with another city department, or they may have shipped the records to Columbia to the state archives, but I know the records exist...in fact, it was a big area with shelves and shelves of old records. I can't remember what else they had. At the time, we were only really interested in seeing the Orphan House records which were impressive. In my notes I have the name, Susan King, and a phone number - 724-7302, but I'm sure that's out of date.
