    3. I've looked at this a little because of my ancestor, Levi Abrahams, who lived in Charleston in the early 1800's. He and his wife died, leaving at least four small children, several of whom were raised in the Charleston Orphan House. By the time the children left the home, the spelling of the name had been shortened to Abrams. We have no idea if the family was Jewish or not...no family tradition or oral history, possibly because the children were raised in the Orphan House, I don't know. There is, at least, one book available and probably manuscripts, etc., at the various Charleston libraries.
