I don't know if I am the person who was talking about researching historic Charleston Synagogues, but I am doing it. Although things are temporarily on hold until some health things are squared away. Temple Beth El is the oldest and very helpful. College of Charleston is another good source. I am having a difficult time finding anything on Temple Shearith, which was the orthodox synagogue. However, there is a book at the U. of NC in Charlotte Library called "The Jews of SC" by Elzas. See if your library can get a copy for you. Mine could not, but a nice person photocopied specific pages for me. Right now, I cannot reach my resouces to give you addresses etc because I am in a wheelchair and cannot roll it on the stupid carpeting. I'll be alright, but am feeling like a grounded whale and very frustrated because I cannot reach my file boxes. You can find the addresses you need on the SC web page, I'm sure. Caroline Looking for Louis Harrison, Rebecca Jones, Israel Jones, Sarah Henry Jones, Maurice L. and Miriam Henry. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Monday, March 20, 2000 11:13 AM Subject: [SCCHARLE] Historic Charleston Synagogues/Churches > > > >During the recent discussion on historic synagogues and churches, someone >posted the name of a Contact re Charleston Jewish History. > >I would appreciate a REPEAT POSTING of this resource person's name and >address.
