The churches were Anglican/ Episcopalian but the surrounding parishes became political districts. You might want to try the early Lutheran churches. I have a similar situation w/ ancestors where one spouse was Roman Catholic & one was German Lutheran. Their records were located in one of the early Charleston Lutheran churches. URQ
