Hello all, I am interested in the early Charlstonians who were first in Barbados. Is there anyone here who also has ancestry that fit that pattern of immigration? Diane in Iowa, USA mailto:meregra@avalon,net http://www.genweb.net/~meregra (genealogy web page) icq# 8679306
Diane, I have been researching the Cantey/Canty family for about 8 years and have about 45900 names in my databse of Cantey/Canty's and related families. They came from Ireland to Barbados then to Charleston. From there they have spread out across the US first to Ga, Ala, La , and then others. Diane - Back in the early 1990s when I lived in Charleston, one of the local societies did a group visit to Barbados. They explored the links between the two areas. I don't recall if it was the SC Historical Society or the Huguenot Society - but if you write to the SCHS, they would probably know who it was, if it wasn't them. I"m sure whoever spearheaded that effort will have lots of info for you on the connection between the two. ----- Original Message ----- From: Diane Graham <meregra@avalon.net> To: <SCCHARLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 24, 2000 8:19 PM Subject: [SCCHARLE] Barbados to Charlston > Hello all, > > I am interested in the early Charlstonians who were first in Barbados. > Is there anyone here who also has ancestry that fit that pattern of > immigration? > > > > > > > Diane in Iowa, USA > mailto:meregra@avalon,net > http://www.genweb.net/~meregra (genealogy web page) > icq# 8679306 > > > > ==== SCCHARLE Mailing List ==== > Lots of holdings on Charleston County Families > South Carolina Historical Society > http://www.schistory.org >
