CJK: Your evidence does seem to point to an error. I have Mary Ann Girardeau Axson as the widow of General Richard Withers Vanderhorst by whom she had at least four children from Aug., 1816 to April, 1820. "However", if I have her death date correct as April, 1821, she obviously could not have married Dr. Gadsden in 1842. So the correct wife seems to be Mary Ann Gibbes, widow of John Axson. Question: was her name "Gibbes" or "Gibbs"? I don't know her parents. Now: Unfortunately, I have her married to two John Axsons, one (the son of Samuel and Elizabeth You) b. abt 1794, and the other (the son of William and Susannah Mouzon) b. 1764 and the widower of Mary Ann (Archer?). The Dec., 1919 marriage date seems to be about right for either "husband". Does anyone know the correct "John" for this Mary Ann Gibbes?
